Laura, Clara, Jill and Chris Ulrich from Ulrich Farms in Elimsport stand where their sweet corn patch once stood earlier this summer. Behind them is organic field corn that is being grown for grain to be fed to local Amish for their organic dairy cows. In order to maintain the high quality necessary for dairy cows, Ulrich typically rotates about 15 acres of organic corn each year.
The Ulrichs raise about 90 acres of conventional corn, 70 acres of soybeans, and 10 acres of small grain, all of which are an entirely no-till practice. They keep about 20 acres of ground in hay in order to feed the cows through the winter. Laura and Clara are involved in 4-H and Chris and Jill are both teachers in the Montgomery area School District.
