The 113th gathering of Montgomery’s Alumni

MONTGOMERY – Members and guests totaled 141 at the gathering of the 113th Alumni banquet held at the Clinton Township Fire Hall at Montgomery on June 9.

Recognition was given to reunion classes with three members from 1938, the earliest in attendance. They were Geneva LeVan Hoover of Fairfield Ohio; Betty Carey Gatski of Danville; and Paul Decker, Junior, of Williamsport.

Vying for recognition for traveling the greatest distance were Ed Zarr, Wyoming, and William Hill of Texas.

The family honored as the most alumni in attendance was Dana Weary Harding, class of 1953. Additional relatives were Lon Harding, 1973; Kim Harding Johnson, 1978; Jessie Stryker Harding, 1981 and Lori Harding Venema, 1984.

Since the awarding of scholarships began, the alumni association has awarded over $40,000. For 2018, fifteen were interviewed for the slots. An amount of $2,500 went to Oscar Garcia, Ethan Litzelman and Maddie Solano-LaForme. Garcia will attend Penn College, Litzelman, George Mason University, and LaForme is headed for Duquesne University.

The $600 Margaret Stolz scholarship was awarded to Madison Heddings who will attend Wilkes University.

The class of 1968 was represented by Gordon Pauling who gave the invocation. Also gifted by the 50-year class, William Schneck presented the Alumni Association Scholarship fund with a check of $5,500. Alumni Association president Larry Stout, gave kudos to the class for their efforts noting their generosity and that of alumni over the years.

Montgomery’s alumni association has an excellent reputation for keeping in touch, thanks largely to the efforts of historian Leona DeWalt.

Seniors each receiving a $2,500 monetary award sponsored by the Montgomery Area High School Class of 2018 were (Left-right): Oscar Garcia, Ethan Litzelman and Maddie Solano-LaForme. The $600 Stolz award went to Madison Hedding. All were presented by Alumni President Larry Stout.
