MUNCY-If a zombie apocalypse were to happen, would you know what to do in order to survive? A Muncy Township author’s science fiction book, “The Next 30 Days” may provide readers with a few ideas, should such a catastrophe occur.

Powell’s book is well-timed, considering the recent fascination with the AMC series “The Walking Dead.” The government website, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, became aware of America’s obsession with flesh-eaters and created a tongue-in-cheek campaign to engage new audiences with preparedness messages (cdc.gov/cpr/zombie/)

And although Powell’s softcover should not be considered an emergency survival manual, it does beg the question to the reader: would you be sufficiently prepared for an emergency for “the next 30 days?”

Although fiction, Powell’s writing is deeply rooted in the supernatural and paranormal, but notably, not demonic. Drawn to reading at an early age, Lora devoured horror-genre Goosebumps series books by author R. L. Stine. As the daughter of Rod and Ann Fry, of Williamsport, her taste in authors matured to include authors Dean Koontz and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Graduating in 2003, she worked as a dog groomer at the Animal Hospital in Williamsport before becoming a stay-at-home-mom. With years of grooming experience on her resume`, Lora established Haven Dog Grooming on 207 John Brady Drive, Muncy.

But it was only three years ago that she “bit the bullet” and began writing-“The Next 30 Days” is the fruition of that venture.

Using the storytelling platform website Wattpad, Lora poured all her efforts into the novel. Because the website is interactive, she was able to receive immediate feedback from members around the world.

“That [input] alone was invaluable,” Lora said. By the end of 2017, Powell self-published the book, and while it received a few nice reviews, it didn’t sell very many copies, she said. Six months later, an agent connected with her via Wattpad and introduced her to Typewriter Pub, an independent publishing company that specializes in new authors.

Working with two different editors, Lora’s manuscript became a reality four months ago and is gaining notoriety; she’s started writing a sequel.
