The Muncy Luminary and Lycoming County Advertiser-March 26, 1886

Died: Crist, on Thursday, March 18, in Muncy Creek twp., Mary, infant daughter of Wm. M. and Louisa Crist, aged 11 months and 5 days.

Hon. Robert K. Reeder went up to Hughesville last Wednesday evening to act as groomsman at the wedding of his cousin, Mr. R. A. Reeder, who was married to Miss Alice C. White.

On Wednesday night some scoundrels broke into Mr. Henry Whitmire’s store and stole several pairs of men’s boots and other goods, some of which were found in the alleys the next morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stolz entertained at progressive euchre, in honor of their 12th wedding anniversary, on Thursday, at their home at Willow Grove.

Charles T. Lawrence, who has been a citizen of this place, will remove his family to Dushore, Sullivan county, where he is having a fine new residence erected.

Messrs. Twain, Henry and Lee Brewer were in Philadelphia, last week, and after witnessing a demonstration of the latest modern piece of equipment for straightening auto chassis, axles, etc., while cold, and for aligning wheels, etc, purchased one of these outfits. The equipment is very expensive but is being installed in the local garage in order that they may maintain their reputation of having the most modernly equipped garage in Lycoming County.

Rays-Miss Sarah Anderson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Anderson, and Mr. Murray Laurenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Laurenson, both of Muncy, were quietly united in marriage on Tuesday morning, January 23.

A marriage license was issued on Tuesday, January 23, at Hagerstown, Maryland, to Lester H. Lyons, age 21, of Opp, and Sylvia Lowe, age 19, of Muncy.

Births-None reported.

Deaths-Mrs. H. J. Peterman, aged 95, who was the oldest resident of Nordmont, died Saturday evening; County commissioner Francis M. Gallagher, died Tuesday evening of a cerebral hemorrhage and a ruptured blood vessel on the right side of the brain; Mrs. Vivian Curran, wife of T. P. Curran, of Philadelphia, died at the Temple Hospital in Philadelphia, March 9th; Mrs. Mary Rothfuss Rentz, wife of Harvey Rentz, of Montoursville, died at her home early Monday morning; William M. Melick, son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth White Melick, former residents of this place, Saturday night; Mrs. Hannah Bieber, wife of Peter Bieber, died at her home on Monday afternoon; word has been received here that Mrs. Mary L. Beiber, formerly this place, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Herbert, in Flint, Michigan, on March 14th.

And then there was one. Plus two from Hughesville. So it was when the smoke of a dense evening in Shamokin cleared. The district four wrestling title went as usual to the Shammies and only one Muncy competitor, undefeated Allie Smith, escaped unscathed.

For good measure, Hughesville’s two fine performers-Wayne Rider and Bob Hall-also carted off district titles but there it ended. Smith added another jewel to his star-studded wrestling crown by winning his third district championship in as many seasons.

For the first time in many years, all alumni of Muncy High School are being urged to attend the annual Alumni Association Banquet which this year will be held at the new Muncy Elementary school on June 5. Following the dinner the 62nd annual Alumni dance will be held in the new high school gymnasium from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

The changing pattern of Muncy’s business district was continued this week with the announcement that the Muncy Banking company’s storeroom, adjoining its main banking parlors, has been rented to DeLucca Music Store of Wilkes-Barre, on or about April 1.

Personals-Mrs. Leona Artley Hull and Clarence M. Snyder, both of Muncy, were married March 6.

Mrs. May B. Goodenow, second grade teacher in the Muncy Elementary schools and another in Muncy’s long and distinguished line of teachers and educators, has submitted her resignation effective with the close of the school term.

Letters of resignation from township auditors Thalia Smith and Barbara Leach were read and accepted at the Muncy Creek Township Supervisors’ meeting held March 7.

Personal reasons were given as the cause of the resignations and no reference was made in those letters to the current dispute over insurance benefits for the supervisors.

Seven years of partnership between Steve and Jerry Winters has resulted in four successful ventures: Win Cap Enterprise, S&J Crafts, Yurika Foods and most recently, The Executive Club.

Personals-Eagle Scout rank was presented to David M. Warren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Warren of Dewart.
