Miss Emma Putman, Mrs. John Quinn and Masters William McCarty and Harry Rutter are occupying the McCarty Cottage at Highland Lake.

Misses Lulu Jewell, Belle Bryan and Georgene Bower, of Hughesville, Messrs. Robert Grange, of Germantown, William C. Stolz and John Hall, of this place, are camping at Ferndale Park.

Misses Hattie and Maude Kline, Edythe and Mabel Walton, Bessie, Lillian and Fannie Edwards, Anna Kinsley, Mazie Trumbower and Messrs. Clinton Tule, Herbert Schoch, will DeWald, J. Russell Smith, Frank Heilman and George Wakenhut returned home Monday afternoon from a camping trip to Sylvan Dell.

On Friday morning, August 2, Miss Rachel Hughes passed away at her home in Muncy Creek Twp. aged 57 years, 9 months and 25 days.

Misses Isabelle Renn and Isabelle Hill and Messrs. Pet Lose and William Plant drove to Billmyer’s Game Park, near Washingtonville, on Sunday.

Misses Sue Green, Mary and Florence Swenk, Blanche Coulter and Nellie Grange, attended a house party given by the Misses Lawrence at Rainbow lodge, Eagles Mere.

Mrs. Susan Fulmer celebrated her 89th birthday anniversary on Friday, August 2nd.

Little Mary Ellen Lee has returned from a two weeks’ visit with friends near Ocean City. She made the trip home from New York City, alone, by bus. Claudette Colbert hasn’t a thing on Mary Ellen!

Larry Lauchle, rising to the greatest challenge in his brilliant wrestling career, on Monday pinned down a berth on the United States Olympic team which will compete in Rome, Italy, later this month. Lauchle thus becomes the first athlete in history to be selected for an Olympic from this area, and his selected climaxes a planned six-month campaign designed to win an Olympic trip, and of course Athletic immortality. Lauchle won in the 125 1/2 pound division of the Greco-Roman style team.

Watsontown weatherman William Bird announced this week that he plans to open a fully-equipped private climatological sub-station in Muncy about Jan. 1, 1961.

Wedding invitations have been mailed for the marriage of Miss Janet Louise Edwards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay W. Edwards, Muncy, and John a. Shaffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaffer, of Riverside. They will be wed on Aug. 21.

A number of prenuptial parties recently have honored Miss Gail Christine Neufer who will become the bride of Jay H. Schoch, on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m.

Deaths: W. Lester Reed, 69, died suddenly at his home near Muncy on Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.; Harvey B. McClain, Hughesville, died after a lingering illness on July 26; Katharine Wheelock, 86, former resident of Hughesville.

When the “Billy Covert Band” made it Muncy debut last week during the LIttle League festivities, many people were not only surprised by the fine calibre of music. but also by the very fact that the band existed.

The Muncy School District board of Directors approved the employment of Susan Enterline as full time elementary teacher at an annual salary of $19,850.

Births: A son, Sean Frederick, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stolz, Bloomsburg, on July 30,1985. Mr. Stolz is a 1973 graduate of Hughesville High School.

Deaths: Doyle C. Keller, 87, of Hughesville, died Aug. 6 in Williamsport Hospital; Benjamin f. Temple, 96, formerly of Hughesville, died Aug.. 11 in United Methodist Homes Laporte, where he was a resident; Eleanor S. Houser Mauck, 69, Allenwood RD 1, died Aug. 9, in Williaimsport Hospital; George P.L. McCarty, 88, of Montgomery, died Aug. 8, in Muncy Valley Hospital; Grover R. Frey, 66, of Muncy RD 3, died Aug. 12, in Muncy Valley Hospital following an extended illness; Vesta H. Wahler, 81, of Montgomery RD 2, died at home Aug. 9; Elta Aunkst, 89, of Montgomery, died Aug. 11, in the Muncy Valley Hospital.

Members of the Keystone Hook and Ladder Company #1 Muncy Fire Department received the Hurst Jaws of Life Green Cross Award for extrication at a motor vehicle accident in Muncy Township.

Robert Webster of Hughesville has prepared a John Deere history to be presented at the East Lycoming Farm and Heritage show at the fairgrounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul S. Kuhn of Muncy celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Aug. 13.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Paul Yocum of Muncy, announce the birth of a daughter on Aug. 7. The mother is the former Heather Joy Reese.

Deaths: Hope Staib Myers, 74, of Montgomery, died Aug. 11 after an extended illness; Elwood F. Miller, 85, of Williamsport, died Aug. 14; Clifford R. Kocher, 68, of Muncy, died Aug. 12 at home; Edward S. Phillips, 88, of Hughesville, died Aug. 10 in the Williamsport Hospital emergency room; Alex E. Kedzierski, 60, of Muncy, died Aug. 8 after a lengthy illness.
