Aug. 15, 1901

Fred Gibson, son of William Gibson, of Williamsport, was accidentally sot and killed at Derby-on-the-Lake, Sunday afternoon. The unfortunate young man was 22 years of age.

Harry Green, of Los Angeles, Calif., is home on a visit to his parents. Mr. and Mrs. DeLa Green.

Rev. A. R. DeWitt, rector of St. James church, delivered an address to the students of the Normal School last Friday on the subject of “Literature,” his principal character being Rudyard Kipling. His address was very instructive and entertaining and was much appreciated by the students.

Aug. 15, 1907

J. B. Blakeslee and his crew of men have completed painting the wood work of the school house. The school board has decided to have them paint the bricks.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and daughter, and Mrs. Crissie Worthington are spending a week as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Litchard, at Exchange.

George Johnson, of York, is spending some time at Green Hill farm, near Pennsdale, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Rogers.

On Monday, Muncy’s progressive barbers, Des Reed and Son, moved into their new quarters, just remodeled in the Rankin Block.

The Muncy Valley Unit of Republican Women held a very successful tureen picnic Tuesday, August 13th, at the home of Mrs. Dale Grey in Pennsdale.

Born A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Heilman, Muncy R.D. at the Muncy Valley Private Hospital Sunday and has been named John McWilliams Heilman. Mrs. Heilman was formerly Murial McWilliams.

John Metzger, with friends from Montgomery, motored to Baltimore, Md., this week. John expects to leave next week for his first cruise on a Standard Oil Tanker.

Three years in Japan will be in store for Roy Maurer, Jr., of Muncy, when he boards ship in San Francisco on Aug. 31. He will be serving as a senkyoshi, a missionary, for the Board of Missions of The Methodist Church.

The Muncy Joint School faculty was completed for the 1960-61 term when the school board met Monday and elected Frank Mazzeo, of Old Forge, as a junior high school English teacher. He replaces Mrs. Violet Riley, who resigned recently.

Deaths: Mrs. Margaret Miller Grange, well-known area pianist and organist and widow of Boyd R. Grange, Muncy newsdealer, died suddenly at 4 p.m. Aug. 9 in Cohoes, N.Y.; Mrs. Samuel C. Brass, longtime Muncy resident and treasurer of Muncy Borough, died Aug. 3, at the Muncy Valley hospital; Laura Fenstamaker, 90, of near Hughesville, died Aug. 8, at the Muncy Valley hospital; Lee J. Leonard, 49, prominent Montgomery businessman and owner of the popular Inn 15 died suddenly at his home near Montgomery on Aug. 8; Military funeral services will be conducted at Arlington National cemetery, Washington, D. C. on Friday for Jesse Crossley, 49-year old former Hughesville resident.

Now open is the new “Creasy’s Concept in Living” interior decorating center. Pat Creasy and her husband Chet have purchased the former Funston’s Trailer Sales located two miles east of Muncy on route 405.

Miss Diana Lin Fague, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. Fague, Picture Rocks, became the bride of Thomas Jacob Goering, on Saturday, August 10.

Mr. and Mrs. John Klim, RD 4, Muncy, announce the engagement of their daughter Betty Anne, to James Stephen Allen, Cochranville.

Miss Diane Clair Berninger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Berninger, Muncy, became the bride of Terry Neal Phillips, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry N. Phillips, Muncy on August 17.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Brown of Muncy were honored by their children with a surprise 40th wedding anniversary dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Williams Brown on August 11.

Army Reserve Pvt. Jeffrey S. Reese, son of Mary al. Reese, Muncy, has completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J.

Mr. and Mrs. Arwood Snyder, Muncy, will observe their 45th wedding anniversary on August 24.

Births: A son, Anthony James, born to Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Little of Picture Rocks, on Aug. 16. Mrs. Little is the former Judy Long. A son, Joshua Wayne, born to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bowers, Norfolk, Va on August. 18. The mother is the former June Hauck of Elimsport.

Deaths: George N. Hawk, 69, of Muncy, died Aug. 15 in Muncy Valley Hospital.

Keystone Hook & Ladder Fire Department has awarded Firefighter Michael Diehl with a Monthly Achievement Award for his outstanding performance.

Dean and Cindy Benedict of Hughesville had no idea that their wedding anniversary celebration would include saving the life of a fellow diner, but it did. Recently, while enjoying an evening out at the Thomas Lightfoote Inn in Williamsport, Dean, a forensic expert with the PA State Police, dislodged a piece of steak from a choking gentlemen’s throat.

Former Muncy resident Andy Balliet, was delighted to serve as best man at the wedding of his brother, Keith and his bride Corinna, which took place Aug. 12 in Philadelphia.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Chris Shaner of Hughesville, announce the birth of a son on Monday, Aug. 14. The mother is the former Cindy K. Gordner. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry E. Hahn, of Montgomery, a daughter on Aug. 11. The mother is the former Patrician A. Schoeffer.

Deaths: Gertrude Sarah Zarr, 80, formerly of Muncy, died Aug. 19; Ruth Ann Fenstermacher, 92, of Muncy, died Aug. 17 at Valley View Nursing Center.
