Aug. 22, 1901

Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Simon Sheridan, on Sunday, August 18, a daughter.

Misses Carrie Michael and Mabel Heller returned home on Monday evening from a two weeks’ visit with friends in Williamsport.

Mrs. Eliza Rooker and daughter, Carrie, left on Monday for Waterloo, N.Y. to attend the funeral of Malcolm Love, which took place on Tuesday afternoon.

William Fiester, of Pullman, Ill., who has been the guest of his grandparents, Mr. and MRs. Henry Gundrum, at Clarkstown, for several weeks, returned home on Saturday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Simon Snyder, of this place, who will visit the Pan American.

Aug. 22, 1907

In 1869 J. M. M. Gernard brought to Muncy the firs bunch of bananas that many of our citizens had ever seen, and few had ever tasted. He hung the bunch in front of his store and it was viewed with great curiosity, and they sold readily for five cents a piece.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Harmen died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stryker, at Montoursville, on Aug. 4, in the ninetieth year of her age. She was a twin sister of MRs. Mary Ann Fowler, who died at Port Penn a few months ago, and they were the oldest set of twins in Lycoming County.

Charles Ecroyd and family of near Pennsdale, are on a trip to Niagara Falls and the Thousand Islands.

The Muncy boys defeated the Montoursville boys in a game of baseball on Saturday at the latter place, by a score of 11-4. Batteries for Montoursville were Donald, Bennett and Stugart, and for Muncy Shaw and Colley.

Robert Fox, a 48-year old employee of the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, was electrocuted yesterday afternoon at 2:55 o’clock, while repairing wires on a pole at the Bryfogle greenhouse. A fatal contact occurred when Mr. Fox’s right foot came in contact with a ground wire.

The latest curbstone topic in Muncy, this time with apparent foundation, is that Muncy is to have a new post office.

Mrs. Sarah Hall had the misfortune to fall and nearly sever the index finger on her left hand. Dr. Rickolt dressed the wound.

“Sonny” Wenner, of Williamsport, rode his bicycle to Muncy Wednesday, and will spend a week with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ransel B. Smith.

Miss Lois A. Gruneberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gruneberg, of Muncy, will receive a bachelor of science degree from Juanita college at its 35th Summer Commencement on Friday, Aug. 19.

Members of the Muncy Rotary club, expecting a visit from their district governor on Monday at the regular weekly meeting found themselves “stood up”.

Invitations have been issued by MR. and MRs. Gordon R. Stroup Sr., Muncy, for he approaching marriage of their daughter, Rosalie Ann Stroup. to Robert Lee Menges, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Lee Menges, of Turbotville.

Miss Dorothy Marie Shaner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Shaner, of Montgomery, became the bride of Thomas Ray Worthing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Worthington, of near Muncy, in a ceremony performed Aug. 12.

The Picture Rocks Baptist Church will be setting for the wedding on Aug. 20 of Miss Maryemma H. McCarty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. McCarty, of Picture Rocks, and Donald A. Daugherty, son of MR. and Mrs. Amos E. Daugherty, of Muncy.

A 1928 ice box and a 1942 refrigerator were examples of old time refrigeration displayed by Doug Spotts Appliance Sales of Hughesville at the East Lycoming Farm and Heritage show last weekend at the fairgrounds.

Tim Schweitzer and Tina Bennett exchanged wedding vows on July 7 at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Hughesville.

A local gal who is becoming a familiar figure at the Little League games during the series is Kelly Steward, who volunteers as an usher. Roger Wertz can also be seen there working hard volunteering his services.
