Oct. 10, 1901

Miss Harriet Crawford, wife of Geo. W. Crawford, proprietor of the Crawford House, died suddenly on Tuesday morning, aged sixty-four years.

William Jackson the well-known barber of this place, while attempting to jump on the Cannon Ball on the Reading railroad of this place, last Thursday, missed his footing and fell beneath the cars, and his right foot was severed at the ankle.

A delightful surprise party was given at the residence of Mrs. R. K. Reeder on Saturday evening, in honor of her niece, Miss Virginia Linn, it being her fifteenth birthday anniversary.

Oct. 10, 1907

Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Womer and children, Ada and Charles, spent Saturday and Sunday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Albright at Germantown.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Opp spent Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. McCall Piatt, near Montgomery.

Deaths: Charles B. Poust, of Moreland Twp., died Sunday morning at this home, after a lingering illness. Aged 89 years and 15 days; Richard G. Rogers, son of the late Judson and Margaret Burrows Rogers, died Oct. 5 at the home of his son, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 68 years.

A new lease of life was granted one of Muncy’s oldest mercantile houses when Samuel Brass, opened a Nation-Wide grocery at the site formerly occupied by M.E. Long’s grocery, this location having served as a grocery store for almost 80 years.

Booming guns will soon herald the opening of Pennsylvania’s hunting season and Warren Van Dyke Secretary of Highways, calls attention to the great network of good roads which will serve sportsmen bound for their favorite hunts.

Mr. S. W. Opp suffered a stroke on Sunday, and has since been confined to his bed.

At the end of the baseball season may we again call your attention to Charley Blakeslee, Muncy’s ace 16 year-old pitching marvel.

Miss Barbara Ann Fry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Fry, of near Muncy, became the bride of Airman first class Charles I. Pardoe, of Hughesville, on Sept. 25.

Miss Laura Jane Lockard, daughter of Mrs. Kline A. Lockard, of near Montoursville, and the late MR. Lockard, became the bride of Fred C. DeWire, son of Mrs. Harriett DeWire, of Hughesville, and the late Mr. DeWire, on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Mrs. Robert Rinn, of Tanglewood, was named general chairman of the annual Christmas Charity ball when the Muncy Valley council of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met recently.

Mark J. Temons, Muncy High School biology teacher, has been named Outstanding Biology Teacher for Pennsylvania by the National Association of Biology Teachers.

Muncy will be the site for a special match up of VIP soccer players at the Penn Street field on Saturday.

Dr. I.G. Kim was the recipient of the only Americanism medal awarded in Pennsylvania during the past threes years by D.A.R. at the Lycoming Chapter’s October meeting.

Former Muncy High School teacher, Katherine Benion, who has published a book of poetry, was in attendance at the recent Muncy Fall Festival with her daughter, Jan Heffner, the book’s illustrator.
