Dec. 5, 1901

Two of Muncy’s progressive young men, Boyd and Frank Rogers, have purchased the grocery store of Geo. L. Painter, on South Main street, and took charge on Monday morning.

Cards are out announcing the marriage of Miss Francis Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs William Wood, to Mr. J. H. Espenshade, of State College on Dec. 19.

Newton Bair, has received a letter from the War Department stating that his son, John, who has been in the Philippines, is on his way home.

Dec. 5, 1907

James D. Brewer, died at the Soldier’s Home at Erie, Pa., on Friday of last week, and his remains were brought to Muncy on MOnday and taken to the residence of his son, Thorn.

Mr. and MRs. Parvin Keller, of Muncy, and Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Starr, of Jersey Shore, attended the Steiner-Lockard nuptials on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, Muncy’s oldest male inhabitant, Jeremiah Tallman, passed the 91st mile-stone on his journey through life.

It is fourteen years since the bridges in Lycoming County were made free and the collecting of toll abolished.

A family Thanksgiving dinner was given at the home of Frederick Opp, on Muncy, R.D. 3. Mr. Opp is 87 years old and four generations were represented at the gathering.

A pretty home wedding took place in a setting of chrysanthemums and autumn leaves, Wednesday night, Nov. 27th at Elizabeth, NJ when Miss Jane Kirby Rath, became the bride of William Paul Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Lee, of this place.

A very pretty wedding was solemnized shortly after noon on Thanksgiving Day in Lewisburg when Miss Virginia Gowers, daughter of MR. George Gowers of this place, and John Eisenhauer were united in marriage.

Miss Bonnie O’Connor, of this place, was married Nov. 27 in York, Pa to John Hashner, Jr. of Glen Rock.

According to a dispatch sent to a Williamsport paper, Lewis Bubb, son of Mrs. Lester Fieste, of this place, suffered an accident several days ago in which he lost the sight of his right eye.

Deaths: F.O. Sanders, formerly of Watsontown, died suddenly Tuesday while transacting business in Washington D. C. according to word received here; Simon P. Clees, aged 80 years, a former resident of Muncy, died at his home in Detroit Monday evening.

Deaths: W. (Wesley) Harold Hackenberg, longtime Muncy resident died Nov. 26, after a lengthy illness. His age was 59; John Budd Lamade, a teacher in Easty Lycoming schools for the past two years, died early Wednesday, after an illness of several weeks.

Walter Bohner, Muncy and Brian Montz, Muncy, won the bicycles at the Christmas Party held at the Ritz Theatre Dec. 8.

On. Nov. 30 Debra Broerman became the wife of Kent Stiger in a ceremony in Dallas, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. George M. Wilt, of Muncy, will observe their 50th anniversary on Dec. 14.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon R. Stroup, Sr., of Mucy, were recently honored at a surprise open house by their children at the Fireside Room of the Hughesville Friends Church.

Army Pvt. Robert G. Miller has arrived for duty with the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Shirley Schneck and Charles Gansell were wed on Nov. 29 in a candlelight service at the Baptist Church in Picture Rocks.

Yanney, 59, of Muncy was pronounced dead on arrival at Muncy Valley Hospital Dec. 7 after being stricken at home; Marjorie Stohler Wenzel, 73, of Hughesville, died Dec. 4 at home; Kenneth B. Hill, 72, of Hughesville, died Dec. 6 in Divine Providence Hospital.

Borough councilman Rick Ohnmeiss, chairman of the Christmas lighting project, accepts a $700 check from Dick Langer, Muncy Rotary Club, director, to help defray the cost of new Christmas snowflakes adorning Main and Water streets.

Last Wednesday, the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce honored local educators for their extraordinary contributions to the education profession. Additionally students were recognized for their exceptional work. Those honored from our area were: Muncy-Mark Temons and Ivonne Rojas; Carol Lundy and Maliza Gianetto,; and Stephen Rinker, and Collette Carpenter.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. McManigal, of Pennsdale, celebrated their 50th anniversary on Dec. 15.
