Dec. 26, 1901

Mr. and Mrs. George H. Rogers gave a very pleasant party on Wednesday the 18th inst., in honor of their son Leonard’s tenth birthday. About thirty little folks were present and made things lively for a few hours. Leonard received many presents.

Clyde Hester, who has been in the United States Army for three years arrived here Friday last from Manila, Philippine Islands. He is spending the holidays with Charley Bennett and family.

Harry and Boyd Pressler left on Monday morning for Oklahoma Territory, where they have secured positions as bricklayers.

Died: Mrs. Mary R. Smith, wife of Lewis Smith, died at her home on North Main street last Thursday evening after a few days illness, aged 66 years, 11 months and 2 days.

The marriage of Miss Harriett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Everett, of Montgomery, and Mr. Frank Paulhamus, of South Bethlehem, will take place in St. James Church, Muncy, this evening at 6 o’clock.

John Tallman is able to be out after suffering from a bad case of blood poison in the hand. Dr. C.L. Allen was the attending physician.

Dr. and Mrs. T.K. Wood have returned from a visit with friends in Virginia.

Miss Edna Downing is home from Ann Arbor, Michigan to enjoy the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Downing.

Foster T. Hall, of this place, is a patient in the Williamsport Hospital, suffering from a fractured right leg and fracture of the left arm, and four others were treated for shock and bruises following an accident at Wolfe Run bridge north of town, about 12:30 Xmas night.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Merrill Winner announce the engagement of Mrs. Winner’s sister, Miss Mary Callahan Bennett to Leonard F. Finkler, of Muncy, a former resident of this city at a Christmas eve party at their home.

Miss Martha Colley, daughter of Mrs. Levi Colley and Robert Frey, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Frey,both of this place, were united in marriage at 10:00 Christmas morning, in the Baptist Church, the ceremony being performed by the pastor, the Rev. Earl Williams.

Deaths: Catherine Forsythe, of this place, died Monday at the home of her daughter, MRs. Donald Young, of Brooklyn, N.Y., where she was spending the holidays; Elizabeth Yocum, aged 72 of Clarkstown, died at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, after a lingering illness; Dr. Harry Winner died at his home on East Water street, last Thursday, about noon, aged 54 years; Mary Ames, died Dec. 7th at the age of 77 years and two months according to word received here by relatives.

The first day of winter brought an additional nine inches of snow into the area in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, giving residents a total of more than 16 inches in 10 days, most of which is still around due to sub-freezing temperatures.

One of the nicest Christmas musical programs presented in Muncy in many a year was enjoyed by several hundred persons who jammed the all-purpose room of the Muncy Elementary school on Tuesday night.

Although this area of the country has now had much snow, it obviously has been cold enough to freeze the ice on Beaver Lake for snowmobile races.

The first fatal traffic accident this year in Lycoming County occurred Tuesday night on Legislative Route 41140 in Muncy Creel Twp. Kelly Shultz Fry, 21, of Hughesville, was killed when the pickup truck in which she was a passenger left the road on a curve and flipped over.

Mrs. Alma Jean Montague of Hughesville announces the engagement of her daughter, Rebecca Ann Schuck to Joseph Silvernail.

The first baby in Lycoming County this year is Katrina Leigh, first child of Mr. and Mrs. Barry R. Sones, Muncy, RD1.

Walter Neidig, Muncy, was named Mason of the Year by Muncy Lodge No. 299, Free and Accepted Masons and was presented with a plaque by Kenneth W. McClintock of Montgomery.

Nella Godbey Storm, Muncy High School Art instructor, announced that 26 of her students were named as United States National Art Award winners.

Muncy Lodge No. 299, Free and Accepted Masons recently presented a $2,000 check to the Hughesville Fire Department.

Kindergarden and first grade students at Myers Elementary school participated in a Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy before their Christmas break, and raised over $1,4000 in pledges.
