The Muncy Luminary

April 10, 1902

Walter Corson, John Geasey, George Crawford and Ernest Dimm drank a quantity of oil of birch by mistake last Thursday and severely burned their throats.

A number of young men of this place have organized a tennis club known as the W.Y.L.T.K. Tennis Club. They have secured Corson’s lot on Washington street and will make a fine court on the lot.

April 13, 1911

Sunday, a son arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wood and on Monday a daughter arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Fahrenbach.

Died: Martha Louse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Feigles, died suddenly at the home of her parents, on Water St., Monday afternoon, aged five years.

One hundred and sixteen years ago today, April 13, 1795, Lycoming county was organized, being formed from a part of Northumberland county. The county is celebrating its natal day quietly, you may noticed.

DeLos Woodward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Woodward will sail from New York City, April 27, Roumania on the northern coast of Russia, near the Black Sea, where he has signed a 3-year contract with the Standard Oil Co.

Headline: Contest Opens Here Today to Determine Most Popular Baby-Business Men Cooperate With Newspaper In Sponsoring Unique Plan to Select King or Queen of Babyland.

Eleven persons, passengers of a Transcontinental and Western airliner, died when the giant craft crashed into a mountainside near Uniontown, Tuesday morning, and was destroyed by flames.

At high noon today the Evangelical church here was the scene of an attractive spring wedding, when Miss Florence Edward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Edwards, became the bride of Mr. Frederic E. Ruroede, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ruroede, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Died: Marvin E. Horn, aged 79, overseer of the poor for Hughesville Boro, died at his home Sunday afternoon following a long illness; John F. Ritter, of Muncy Township, died at his home Sunday evening, aged 69 years; Fred Burrows, a former resident of Picture rocks, Pa., late of York, died at his home Saturday; Rose Ann Brunner, aged 76, of Lock Haven, was found dead in bed Tuesday morning, death being due to a heart attack.

The newest faculty member of the Muncy JOint Schools is Mrs. Carol C. Pittenger.

The highlight for a busy year for he Muncy high school band members will come on Saturday, April 8, when they appear in the Parade of Princesses of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in the nation’s capital.

A new dress shop, to be known as “Lucie Decker” will be opened in Muncy on or before May 1., it was revealed this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stolz, of MOntgomery, entertained at dinner honoring the birthday anniversary of the latter’s mother Mrs. Laura Derrick and her twin sister, Mrs. Lenna Snider, of Nordmont.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shaner and family visited with their daughter, Miss Sandra Shaner, at Washington, D. C.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boyer and son Jay, Misses Rose Tuvelle and Ruth Ann Baker, of Springfield, Ohio, were guests of Mrs. John Boyer and Mrs. Anna Sheets.

The former Margaret Louise Grow, of Williamsport, married J.E. Pfleegor on Saturday, April 1.

The engagement has been announced of Mary Starr Lloyd to Malcolm B. Bartlow, son of Mrs. Henry G. Brock, of Muncy Farms.
