The Muncy Luminary

Viola Taylor, the 14-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Taylor, had a narrow escape from drowning on Saturday in the river while trying to save a pet dog which had fallen in the water.
Ferrell Snook, son of Ward Snook, who is suffering with blood poisoning is slightly better at this time and hopes are entertained for his recovery.
A delightful surprise party was given Mrs. Jacob Dimm at her home on South Market Street, Saturday evening. It was a complete surprise for Mrs. Dimm and all present had a pleasant time.

James Brittain and Grantham Painter, tow of Muncy’s expert tennis players, went to Williamsport Saturday, expecting to play tennis with a team from the high school. The rain, however prevented their playing.
Died: Katherine M., wife of Russell Gortner, of this place, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wolfinger, in Milton, on Sunday, aged 30 years.
Sherman J. Orner, formerly of this place, is in jail at Meadville, charged with killing his wife, on Memorial Day. The remains were brought to Muncy and services held at the home of her sister, Mrs. Martha Beeber, with interment in the Muncy cemetery.
Burglars blew the safe in the postoffice at Muncy Valley early Sunday morning securing $300 in cash and postage stamps, and about $800 in money orders, checks and notes.

Sporting a coat of tan that would arouse the envy of any person, Dr. W.R. Petrie on Saturday of last week returned from a five-week hunting trip in Mexico, where he succeeded in bagging a splendid specimen of mountain lion.
The marriage of Miss Mary Jane MacMillan, daughter of Robert F. MacMillan, will marry Melvin L. Long, son of W.R. Long, of this place, on June 19th.
On Monday evening, Robert Bower, of Muncy, fell of a tractor, when he reached back to pull a corn stalk, and was severely injured, the rear part of the machine passing over him.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rothfuss announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Mary Elizabeth Rothfuss and Max R. Feigles, son of Mrs. Pearl Feigles, both of this place. The couple was married on May 23 in Maryland.
Died: Edward Pysher, of this place, died Saturday, aged 67 years; Ernest Biddle Karschner, aged 25 years, died at his home Friday night; James M. Scott, of Farragut, died Sunday morning after a two-weeks illness. He was 69 years of age; Rachel Fisher,aged 31, formerly of Muncy Township, died at her home on Sunday morning.

Rev. Harold Washburn,former pastor of Muncy Baptist church is returning to Muncy as speaker at the Baccalaureate of the Muncy high school class of 1961.
Wanda Lee Stroup, Muncy, and Donna Gray, of Hughesville, are members of the Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing who will be graduating.
A full evening’s entertainment was given by the 1960-61 Gymnastic team of Muncy School Friday evening.
