Thursday, March 5, 1903

Dell Lebo, who has been in South Africa erecting bridges for the American Bridge Company for the past two years, is on his way home.

A delightful surprise party was given Misses Mabel and Sue Walton Wednesday evening at their home on West Water Street. A special feature of the evening enjoyment was a number of songs sung by Messrs. Shaw and Tallman.

Miss Edna Downing pleasantly entertained the sewing society on Thursday evening at her home on S. Market street. Those present were: Misses Marian Painter, Emily Oberfell, Clara Bailey, Louise Albright, Margaret Love and Frances Petrikin.

Thursday, March 7, 1912

With a roar and a crash that was heard in every part of town, Friday night, at 9:41 o’clock, engine No. 699, drawing southbound train NO. 58, on the Philadelphia &Reading railroad, blew up just as it was opposite the station, with the result that four of the six men comprising the crew were instantly killed, and telegraph operator Clifford Warg, who was in the station, had two teeth knocked out and had cuts about the face and body.

Born: A son, on February 29, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Frey.

J.H. Gulliver has secured a position with the Tidewater Pipe Line Co., at this place, and will move his family here from South Williamsport.

The annual school play of the Muncy-Muncy Creek High School will present this year on March 11th, “Yours Truly Willie.”

Announcement of marriage, Miss Marjorie Stohler, of Hughesville, to movie actor son, El Brendel, Jr., of Philadelphia.

Mr. Elmer Barbour, of the Golden Rule Grocery, is confined to his home by illness.

George H. Anderson, of Pepper Street, is suffering from a bilious attack.

Died: Floyd Hefty, aged 45, formerly of Watsontown, died at 3:30 o’clock last Thursday afternoon of lobar pneumonia; Mary Etta Baxter, died Monday of last week, passed away at her home in Wolf Township, death was due to pneumonia. She was 53 years old; Charles C. Ebner, 55, a former resident of this place, died of a heart condition at his home in Towanda, Feb. 25.

Two area residents, Robert Earle Fischer, of Picture Rocks, and Roger Lee Sharpe of Muncy, are members of the class of seniors who will receive the Bachelor of Science degree at Bloomsburg State College on Jan. 18.

James Gleason was elected president and Robert Hofer chief when the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire company held its organizational meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Mayers, of Iowa, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Rae to Charles H. Confer, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Confer, of PIcture Rocks.

Captain Herman Durrwachter, formerly of Williamsport, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. George Gulliver, of Muncy, was killed by a grenade in Viet Nam on Jan. 13, according to word received here early this week.

Died: Donald L. Myers, 66-year old Hughesville business man, who was well known throughout this area, died Jan. 11 at Muncy Valley hospital after a lingering illness; H. Cecil Van Buskirk, employee of Sprout, Waldron, and company, died Jan. 12, at the Muncy Valley hospital; Terry Moser, 15,, Hughesville. The young man was seriously injured in an automobile accident on Sunday.
