The Muncy Luminary
Thursday, July 16, 1903
Mrs. Norman Feigles and daughter and Mrs. Edward Bowers and children are visiting in Mifflinville, Nanticoke and Wilkes Barre.
Muncy citizens were greatly saddened last week by the news of the sudden death of Miss Eva Ditzler, 21-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Ditzler, of this place. Miss Ditzler, who had been visiting Miss Laura Sweeley, near Montoursville, had delayed her return home to enjoy a swim in the Loyalsock before taking the evening train for home. As the two young ladies were about to enter the water, a large tree fell, striking Miss Ditzler, causing instant death.
Recently, G. L. Foust, who lives near Muncy, had a barn raising which was attended by about seventy-five men.
Russel McMichael has greatly improved his residence by the addition of a wide porch on the north side and repainting of the whole structure.

The engineers of the Lycoming Consolidated Gas Company, on Wednesday staked out the building to be used by this company as a gas plant, in the field directly south of the City Flouring Mills. Some of the pipe had already been ordered, and inside of a month active operation will begin.
Raymond Oberfell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oberfell, of the this place, now employed as a chemist in a tannery in West Virginian, has invented a tanning process which will tan leather in ten days, and save months of time spent in the methods now used.
Harry J. Little, graduate veterinarian, ahs opened an office in Muncy, where he can be called on professionally.

Headline: Crash Near Here Causes Three Deaths-Car Leaves Highway and Crashes Into Apple Tree Near Shettler Farm
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Albert Long of East Penn Street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Lois Kathryn Long, to Mr. Dale Konkle, son of Mrs. Elsie Konkle, of Montoursville, which took place on July 4.
Robert Dunbar, 71, prominent Jersey Shore resident was found dead in the yard at their home, Tuesday morning. Mr. Dunbar had used a shotgun, Monday evening, to frighten away rabbits, which were molesting his garden. Tuesday morning before breakfast he again took the gun out into the yard. He was found dead, later, by his wife who went to call him for breakfast.
The gun which he had apparently tried to pull through a fence, had discharged, shooting him through the heart.
A heavy electrical storm which swept over part of Lycoming county and northern areas Saturday afternoon, is reported to have caused damaged which was estimated at $25,000.
Died: Edward W. Houseknecht, aged 66, of this place, died suddenly Monday morning, of a heart attack, while working on a WPOA project on Muncy Creek; Mrs. Charles Allen, a daughter of the late Mrs. Anna Weaver Simpson, of this vicinity, died at her home in West Franklin, ear Towanda, Sunday night.

The resignation of Mrs. Thomas Myers, high school English teacher, was accepted by the board.
A Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education will be awarded to two Muncy students at the Bloomsburg State College commencement on May 27. They are Miss Jacquelyn Ann Wiser and Frank Heller.
F. Howard Bogden, stationed at Dow A.F. Base, Maine, visited friends in town last week. A graduate of Hughesville high school class of 1961.
Sidewalk Carnival in downtown Muncy to take place Thursday and Friday.
Mrs. Hurley Fenstermaker was taken ill while visiting her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Thomas at Covington and was moved to Muncy Valley hospital.

Area resident serving our country: Navy Seaman Allison M. Sipe, daughter of Patricia and John Sipe, of MOntgomery, is a 2001 graduate of Montgomery Area High School.
Muncy Lions Park celebrated a grand re-opening after new equipment was installed on the grounds.
The morning class at Trinity Nursery School in Hughesville, along with teacher Christa Bernan, enjoy the tree house of fellow student Juneil Ritter and her parents of Hughesville.
Jeanne and Donald Berninger of Muncy will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on June 7.
Kristen A. Schneck, daughter of Diane and Bill Schneck of Muncy, and granddaughter of Shirley Gansell of Montgomery, was recently named recipient of the Dr. Samuel C. Comory Memorial Scholarship Award.
