Thursday, July 30, 1903

Married: Daniel D. Frey and Elsie Dye, both of this place, were married by Justice of the Peach D.W. Buffington, at his residence Thursday evening of last week.

Ida Vandine, Blanche and Nora Stine, Bess and Laura Leinbach, and Elizabeth Meixell, of this place, and Althea Stanton, of Williamsport, and Lucy Hamilton are spending a week camping out at Stolz’s Island, near the pump station.

The Calorific Heater company, with a capital of $75,000 has decided to locate in Muncy, and our people will rejoice to know that another industry will be added to those already here.

Thursday, August 1, 1912

Mr. and Mrs. John Sorenson and sons, Clarence and Claude, are going abroad, sailing; from New York on Wednesday. Among the places to be visited will be their old home in Denmark.

S.D. Renn, who is camping along the river, near the Will Davis farm, on Tuesday morning, landed a salmon that measured 28 inches in length.

Misses Mary Brittain and Peggy Goodenow, and Reggie Frymire and George Shimer, of Milton, motored to Lairdsville in the latter’s car on Saturday.

Lieut. L. Ray Poust of the medical Reserve Corps, U.S.A., and wife, are guests of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Poust. Lieut. Poust will soon leave for Fort Riley, Kansas, where he will be stationed.

Thursday, July 29, 1937

George Aungst, aged 11, and his brother, Bruce aged 8, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Aungst, of Muncy R.D. were almost instantly killed Tuesday afternoon; while on a bicycle. Coming onto the highway about five miles south of town, the boys crashed into a car driven by Alfred W. Whitford, of Watsontown. Harry R. Cornelison is surely making good in the C.M.T.C. Camp at Fore Meade this year. It being his third year in training he is a Sergeant and right guide of the First Platoon.

Jake Plankenhorn says the trouble with the average man is that his average isn’t quite high enough.

Died: Charles W. Whitmire, formerly of Muncy and Montgomery, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lamonte Mauck, near Allenwood abut 4 o’clock Saturday morning. He was 73 years old; Mrs. Henrietta E. Baker, 72, died Sunday morning after a lingering illness; Word has been received here of the death of O.P. Fahrenbach at his home in Chicago, Illinois.

Ward L. Myers, the people’s choice, completed the cycle of the Muncy Joint School system on Tuesday, May 29, when he was elected unanimously by the Muncy Joint School Board as the new supervising principal.

Edward Wert will be accorded top scholastic honors and the Jessie Heilman prize, and Edward Wertman will received the coveted Sprout-Waldron four-year scholarship when 67 members of the Class of 1962 are graduated.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Frey have returned form a week’s vacation at the Bontomase cottage near Tom’s River, NJ.

Mrs. Harry Berry, of Hughesville, entertained at dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Fague and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kin, of Picture rocks, and Mrs. Cartie Shaner, of Montoursville.

On Monday, the Hughesville High School seniors will leave for a three-day trip to New York City with Mr. and Mrs. James Ritter and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Dodson, as chaperones.

That’s a bar’ in that tree, and the tree is almost five feet from the deck on the back of Sally and Neal Orr’s home near Clarkstown. The bear is a female who has been roaming the area with her three cubs.

Area resident serving our country: Marine Corp. Private First Class Eli Robert Shaheen is the son of Robert Shaheen of Pennsdale, and grandson of Doris Shaheen Beam of Muncy.

A high rate speed is blamed for the accident on Wolf Run Road in Wolf Township last Friday at 7:45 p.m. that claimed the lives of two area teenagers. The 1993 GT, driven b Thomas Hedricks, 19, of Beaver Lake Road, Hughesville, sent off the road, struck a tree and burst into flames. The other passenger riding the front seat was also killed, Brandon Yonkin, 19 , of Cottage Street, Hughesville.

Logan and Peyton Daley, children of Pam and Ken Daley of Muncy,m enjoyed a visit with a fawn at the Muncy Valley Lawn Party on Saturday.

East Lycoming School District announce retirements of William Ebner, Christine Lechien; and Carol Zablocky.

On Sunday, June 2, Joel W. Baker graduated as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
