Thursday, August 19, 1903

Miss Daisy Rickolt and Leroy Pass were quietly married on Saturday evening, at the Baptist Parsonage, by the Rev. D.L. Woods.

Katherine Glass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Glass, entertained a number of her little friends Friday afternoon in honor of her birthday anniversary. An enjoyable time was had by all.

On Sunday, at the Presbyterian Sunday School, Prof. J. George Becht who has acted as superintendent of the school for a number of years, was presented with a handsomely bound edition of Tennyson’s works in two volumes.

Harry Whitmire, who has been connected with the drug store of the late M.L. Shipe, for several years, has enrolled at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and will leave for that city the latter party of the month.

A pleasant party was given on Friday evening in honor of the 13th birthday of Clarence Goodnow, at his home on Main street.

A pleasant wedding took place at the office of Squire D.W. Buffington last evening, when Norman Applegate and Miss Ethel E. Minnier were united in marriage.

On Tuesday evening a stranger went to the livery barn of Artley Tallman, and hired a horse and buggy to drive over to Clinton township for a few houses, and has not been heard of since. On Wednesday Mr. Tallman brought the telephone into use and learned that the thief at that time was between Watsontown and Dewart. He continued to follow the trail until it led to Mooresburg, where it was lost, and no more has been heard of it since.

Lycoming County Fair Will Open Next Week-Automobile Races will bring thrills as Climax of Four-Day Exhibit

Two old Muncy boys, Clinton and Freeman Persun, the former living in Altoona, and the latter in Elizabeth N.J. revisited this week, the scenes s of their youth of 60 years ago.

A number of Muncy friends of Mr. Richard Brewer, of Shanghai, China, have expressed great concern over the safety of the former Williamsport, and his wife, who, up until July 22, were living on a houseboat about 20 miles from Shanghai.

Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Taylor and Miss Ethel Taylor, of this place, attended the wedding of Miss Dorothy Ashenfelter and Paul Seidel at Washington.

Local Boys Try Out for Big Baseball-

In company with several other young men from Montgomery and Picture Rocks, George and Robert Wilt, of this place, are spending four days at the professional baseball tryout camp at Pottsville.

Born: To Mr. and Mrs. Max Feigles, at the Muncy Valley Hospital, on Monday, a son. Miss Feigles was formerly Miss Mary Rothfuss.

Died: Miss Rebecca Caroline Heller, aged 83, died Sunday evening at Muncy Valley Hospital, where she had been a patient since last April, with a fractured hip.

Dr. William C. Grasley, Hughesville, physician and former president of the Lycoming Medical Society, is giving up his practice to become associated full-time with the athletic Department at the Pennsylvania State University.

Barring the unforeseen, the Muncy Joint School faculty for 1962-63 was completed with the election of four teachers over the weekend, Theron V. Lewis, Bert Feister, Rhea Bair and Geoffrey Wood.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rathmell and son, Robert, and MR. and Mrs. Robert McManigal spent the weekend in Pittsburgh and attended the Pirates-Houston ballgame and the Pirates-Cardinals double-header.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. McCoy and sons of near Hughesville have returned from a week’s visit with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ritter and family at Brandywine, Md.

Area resident serving our country: Staff Sgt. Randy McCauley of the HHC 3/103 Armor out of Lewisburg was called into active Army duty on July 26.

According to Weis spokesman at Danville, the Muncy Weis Superstore under construction on East Penn Street is targeted to open sometime in the fall.

Pastor William Miller, III and family were recently welcomed to the pastorate at Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, Muncy.

Minor Little League Minor All Stars defeated Montoursville 16-2 to win first place at the ninth annual East Lycoming All Star Tournament.

Twins Chelsea and Lindsey Wittlich, 11, recent yard sale and lemonade stand entrepreneurs, donated goods not sold to The Son Light House food and clothing distribution ministry in Muncy.
