Thursday, Nov. 19, 1903

Fifty years ago Jacob Cooke kept a store in the room now occupied by John DeLaney and several days ago Mr. DeLaney found the stools used in the store at that time. He has placed them in his store and they will serve in the same store after a lapse of all these years.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lee JR. will arrive in town on Nov. 12, having closed with the Barnum & Bailey shows at Richmond, Va. Mr. Lee will leave on the 18th for New York, whence he will sail for London to fill a 12-week engagement.

A dance was held at Smith’s hall on last Thursday evening in honor of Ray Oberfell and Paul Vandine two State College students who were home on a short vacation.

Thursday, Nov. 21, 1912

While Anderson, son of MR. and Mrs. George Anderson, was operated upon for appendicitis at the home of his parents on Saturday afternoon. Drs. Weigle and Rankin assisted by Miss Ella Ritter of Hughesville as nurse.

Rebe Merrill and family have moved in the property owned by the McCarty estate, corner Main and Mechanic street.

Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Rogers of Green Hill Farm, near Pennsdale, announced the marriage of their daughter, Caroline E. to Vertner L. Browning, of Williamsport which took place May 31, 1912 at Wilmington, Del.

Thursday, Nov. 18, 1937

Recently, Paul Woodley, age 30, of near Huntersville, suffered a fractured leg when a cow dragged him across a pasture, with the cow chain twisted around his legs.

The new wrought iron railings in true Colonial style have been installed at the post office, replacing others, which were not in keeping with the architecture.

The Chicago Mail Order company, of Chicago, announces that the judges in its recent Coat-Naming contest have awarded Second Prize in Pennsylvania to Mrs. C. G. Hewitts of Muncy. Mrs. Hewitt will receive as her award a Genuine “Thor” Washer.

Died: John E. Barbour, aged 78, well known resident and former business man of Muncy, died suddenly Sunday morning at his home on South Main street; Hannah Teresa Murray, aged 73, a well known and prominent resident of Glade Run, died at her home Friday morning; Hattie Rupert Reid, 86, died Sunday afternoon.

Long-time Hughesville resident and Muncy industry executive Robert O’Dell was named “Man of the Year” at the 11 annual Crawley Street Golf Tournament.

Cub Scout from Muncy, Pack 24, visited The Luminary office last week to learn more about newspaper reporting and computers as they work on their Cub Scout bear badge, under the direction of Den Mother Carol McGee.

Muncy’s dynamic duo of Erin Klinger and Samantha Mothersbaugh captured the PIAA District 4 girls doubles teams championship last Saturday at Bloomsburg University.

Paula Shaner of Hughesville wed David Taylor of Montgomery on Oct. 17.

Area resident serving our country: Airman Matthew L. Bodle has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tx. The 20002 graduate of Hughesville High School is the son of Peggy and Doyle Bodle, Jr.

Ward L. Myers Elementary students enjoyed dressing up for a Fall Festival parade last Thursday afternoon.

Rep. Brett Feese announced recently that Muncy Creek Twp. will received a $250,000 grant from the Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) to help fund construction of the township’s sewage renovation and extension project.
