The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Dec. 17, 1903

At 7 o’clock this evening, Miss Jennie, daughter of Mr. .and Mrs. H.W. Petrikin, of Montoursville, will be united in marriage to Prof. J. Harry Shoemaker, of Jersey Shore, at the residence of Mr., C. P. Petrikin on No. Main street.

Married: At the M.E. Parsonage, Lewisburg, on the 25th of November, by Rev. R. H. Colburn, Mr. Leroy H. Stout and Miss Estella S. Heller.

Last week Messrs. Ives and Lawrence Brothers broke ground for their modern sawmill, which will be situated along the switch of the Philadelphia and Reading railroad. The foundation will be of concrete, and the mill will be equipped with all the latest improved machinery.

The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Dec. 19, 1912

Frank Smith, sixteen year old son of Calvin Smith, of Port Penn, narrowly escaped death last Sunday while attempting to jump a freight train at the Reading station. He was thrown and narrowly escaped rolling under the wheels. Spectators who saw the foolhardy attempt turned their heads when he fell, expecting to see him ground to pieces. He was severely cut and bruised about the head and body.

Frances, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Anderson, fell into a basin of boiling water, severely scalding her face and left arm.

A variety shower was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Fritz on Friday evening, in honor of their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fritz.

Thursday, Dec. 16, 1937

Died: Eleanor Ulmer Rayhorn died Monday at three o’clock. She was 36 years old; Fred Bussler, aged 66, Hughesville, died Monday night; Alice A. Kliemann, 81, died at her home last Thursday morning; William T. Fuller, formerly of this place, died at the home of his son on Saturday morning; John Shober Kimber, entered into rest December 8; Mary Martha Trump, 67, Pennsdale, died December 8 after a short illness.

Brady Snyder, Adjutant of Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion attended the annual Roundup of the Legion held in Harrisburg in the State Capitol.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, who were injured in an automobile accident, have been transferred to the Bloomsburg Hospital.

Miss Mary Harman, of Muncy, and Ivan Stiles, of Comly, were married Dec. 7 in Frederick, Md.

The Muncy Borough Authority has received grant approval from the Dept. of Commerce for $1.5 million dollars.

The Montgomery Red Raiders football team finished their regular season at 11-0.

Thomas Scholvin, superintendent of the Muncy School District, would like to see parents ore aware of Reye’s Syndrome by passing on some helpful hints.

Cathy Helt, of Muncy, was honored at a bridal shower given by Colleen Sheptock and Nan Rusczyk on Nov. 14 at the home of Mrs. Sheptock in Montgomery. Cathy will be married to George A. Henry, of Muncy, on Nov. 28

Deaths: Harriet A. Depsey, 55, Muncy, died Nov. 11; Donald Ritter, 80, formerly of Muncy, died Nov. 16.

With Muncy borough’s Christmas decorations in place and a light covering of snow last Monday evening, it was sure “beginning to look a lot like Christmas” downtown.

The home of Elaine and Vera Erdman, Carpenter Street, Muncy, has been determined by investigators to be a total loss according to Keystone Hook and Ladder Fire Chief Craig Johnson. Fire broke out about 3:15 p.m., Thanksgiving Day when a living room lamp started burning and hot embers ignited a couch.

“Basses on a Rampage” a piece featuring the low brass sections of a wind ensemble, is being rehearsed by Dick Lloyd of Muncy and the other 70-plus members of the Scottish Rite Imperial Teteque Band for the Winter Concert.

William Baskin, representative of the Son LIght House, accepts a check in the amount of $310 donated by the East Lycoming Education Association, from Carol Rechel, a fifth grade teacher at Ashkar.

Births: Jillian Rooker and Andrew Beckner, of Muncy, a son, Nov. 28.
