The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Jan. 14, 1904

A jolly crowd of young people from this place drove to Hughesville on Friday evening, where they spent a very pleasant evening at the home of Miss Eva Michael. Pit and Flinch were the card games.

Ramson Artley, who lives on the Ellicott farm, near Pennsdale, was very badly kicked in the side by a horse that was standing in the stable.

John P. Opp, Jr., of Muncy Creek Township, one of our prompt paying subscribers, called at our office on Tuesday and renewed his subscription for another year.

Thursday, Jan. 16, 1913

Edmund J. Heller, a former resident of Muncy, and son of Samuel Heller, has been promoted from chief clerk to teller of the First National bank at Gary, Ind.

Samuel Sedam, of near town, was one of the committee on arrangements that had charge of farmers’ institute, held in Hughesville, Monday and Tuesday,

John H. Irvin died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Sarah Jane Irvin, on North Main street, Saturday evening, at 7:35 o’clock after a long illness, aged 46 years.

Leonard Colley entertained a number of friends at his home on West Water street Friday evening.

Thursday, Jan. 13, 1938

The rumor is that Muncy is soon; to have a building boom of new homes. They evidently will be needed.

Miss Martha Taggart, will open her Dancing School, at a new location on South Main street.

The Muncy-Muncy Creek join school boards, in session last Wednesday evening, endorsed the candidacy of Frank H. Painter for reelection as county superintendent of schools.

New telephone directories, the 1938 edition, have been distributed by the West Branch Bell Telephone company.

Miss Ella Irwin, aged 84, of this place, on Friday night after suffering injuries when she fell at her home, fractured her hip.

A variety; shower was given on Thursday evening for Mrs. Laurence Herit, in her new home at Hughesville.

Died: John Yocum, 69, prominent farmer, who resides on the upper road to Clarkstown, died Wednesday, as the result of a broken back; Thomas W. Robb, aged and highly respected citizen of this place, died at his home on Friday, Jan. 7, in his 83rd year; Elsie May Frey, aged 54, of Watsontown, died last late Wednesday evening, Jan. 5; ?Susan Snyder, aged 90, died at her home at Pennsdale on Jan. 8.

Jan. 10, 1963

Muncy’s youthful square dancers were the top winner getting a ribbon in each event in which they were entered Tuesday night at the state farm show.

First Sgt. Gene O’Connor has reported to the Armored Training Center, Form Knox, Ky. The Sergeant, Mrs. O’Connor and son Christopher have spent several weeks with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard O’Connor of Picture Rocks.

The condition of C. Arwood Snyder, business manager of the Muncy Joint Schools, remains “serious” this week at the Muncy Valley Hospital. He was admitted there after being struck on the head by heavy tools which fell from a ledge while working at the school.
