The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Feb. 18, 1904

Miss Hattie Kline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.K. Kline and Mr. Herbert L. Schoch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Schoch, were married at the Lutheran parsonage on Thursday evening at 8 o’clock.

On Monday Levi Hill and John Chambers accompanied by five or six woodsmen left for Friendsville, Md., where they have a big tie contract with a prominent lumber firm.

Mrs. Margaret Waldron royally entertained two large sled loads of lades from Picture Rocks at her residence on West Penn St. on Thursday last.

An alarm of fire was given last Saturday morning about 10:30, and upon investigation the fire was located at the residence of Dr. Geo. G. Wood, on North Washington street. Sparks form the kitchen chimney ignited the shingle roof, setting it on fire, but was promptly extinguished when the firemen came on the scene.

Thursday, Feb. 20, 1913

Murray Zealor, the restaurant man, is once more back in his old location, the opera house lunch room. Last week he purchased the restaurant.

Friday Robert W. Kisner caught a mess of thirty suckers at the creek. He fished through the ice. The string made many less fortunate fishermen envious.

Miss Hazel Kift, of Lock Haven, is the guest of her cousin, Miss Helen Kift.

Misses Emma Trump, Edna Schoch, Edna Shaw and Rebecca Banzhaf were guess at a party given by Misses Sarah and Bessie Dentler at the home in Milton on Saturday afternoon

Thursday, Feb. 17, 1938

Mrs. Mary Grange was honored at noon yesterday by a dinner party celebrating her 95th birthday anniversary.

A new magnesite terrazzo floor is being laid in the confectionery store and ice cream parlor of J. F. Murray, which, when completed will be about the finest floor in any business place in Muncy.

Murray E. Frey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Frey of Dewart and Miss Mary Kathryn Kepner daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Kepner of Allenwood were united in marriage last evening.

Older Muncy residents recall that 40 or 50 years ago the farmer sowed about as many acres of oats as of corn or wheat. The oats went to fuel the power plant of the farm-the horses and mules which pulled the plows.

Died: Mrs. Mabel VanTuyle Vernoy, former resident of Muncy, died Tuesday.

Dr. R.J. Patrizio, under whose guidance in the past year, the Muncy Area Pool Assoc. has nearly climaxed its project to have a completed public swimming pool in Muncy, was re-elected president.

The engagement of Colleen McCowen of Picture Rocks to Pvt. Max K. Rager of Muncy was announced.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Crawford and daughter Faye, of Muncy, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Barto.

Legal fees to attorneys Allen Ertel and John Campana provoked numerous discussions at a meeting of the Muncy Creek Township supervisors on Feb. 3.

Muncy borough council met Feb. 2 and approved the purchase of a police cruiser from the low bidder Gilbert Brothers of Muncy.

Krista Paternostro, a senior basketball star at Hughesville, reached the 1,000 point plateau on Feb. 3 in the game against Bishop Neumann High School in Hughesville.

Corey Wallis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wallis of Muncy, has been chosen to attend Central PA Leadership Seminar in Lancaster.

Airman Stacey L. Allen, daughter of Sandra allen of Hughesville and Donald Allen of Muncy has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Montgomery area brothers plan a double wedding–Engagements were announced of Kimberly Dieter to David McHenry and Lori Ann Martin to James McHenry.

Area resident serving our country: Army Reserve Pfc. Kurt Hausammann, III. He is a 2001 graduate of Hughesville High School and is the son of Brenda and Kurt Hausammann, Jr. of Hughesville.

Construction continues at Ward L. Myers Elementary school in Muncy. Inside the structure, temporary “torpedo” Kerosene fire heaters are being used to raise temperature above freezing. There is a barrier between the construction and any student traffic.
