Thursday, April 21, 1904

On Friday, 22nd inst., Mrs. Elizabeth Heilman will be ninety years old and in honor of the event a large family party will be present, consisting of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Samuel Sheasley has resigned his position at the Muncy Woolen Mills an accepted a position with one of Williamsport’s leading painters, and will be employed there all summer.

Henry Leech, who formerly was a resident of this place, but who has been in the western part of the state for the last two years, has returned and opened up a barber shop in the building on West Water street recently occupied by Charles French.

Thursday, April 24, 1913

Oscar F. Reuther, a clerk at the post office, while off duty last week was thrown from a wagon in which he was standing up to ride, by the horses jumping suddenly. Striking a rear wheel as he fell, he was badly cut and bruised about the side and hip.

Born: To Mr. and Mrs. William H. Thompson, Wednesday morning, twins, a boy and a girl.

Grant Leiser, R.D. Carrier on the route from Muncy to Opp, Moreland and other points, will hereafter serve his patrons by motor car, making the trip several hours earlier than before, He has received his new schedule, with permission from Washington to use the car.

Last Body of Raft Victims is “Recovered From River-Body of Dr. Charles F. Taylor is Found Near Allenwood; Four Others Found Since Sunday

Woolen Mill Worker Found Dead in Car-Edward Caffrey, Victim of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning; Dead A Week Before Discovery-Edward Caffrey, a woolen mill worker of this place, formerly of Wiles Barre, was found dead in a car,, which had been driven into Painter Run, a tributary of Little Bear Creek, nine miles from Loyalsockville, last Sunday afternoon.

For the convenience of the Susquehanna River valley cities of this district, the Pennsylvania Railroad will, on Monday, April 25, inaugurate new train services in each direction between Williamsport and Philadelphia.

Word comes form East Stroudsburg that Steve Roberts, formerly of the Muncy High School faculty, has set a record with the past season’s Freshman Basketball team.

Died: S. B. Derr, aged 79, Muncy resident, died Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grant Leiser; Lena B. Hipple, West Water street, died at her home Friday evening, April 15; Ralph Bitler, age 62, a former school teacher at Hughesville, died Tuesday evening.

The Muncy high school band were swinging into full stride this week as they prepared to participate in the National Cherry Blossom Festival parade in Washington, D. C. next Saturday.

Charles L. Gottschall, of Muncy, has been promoted to a management level position at the Defense Electronics Supply Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beagle, of Danville, have purchased the Dairy Belle from Mr. and Mrs. Karl Feigles of Hughesville effective March 21.

In honor of Mrs. Marianna Ciraulo’s 90th birthday, which occurs on March 30, members of her family will have a get together on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rizzo, where she has made her home for a number of years.

Miss Bette Lynn Zimmerman became the bride of Jack Patrizio, son of Dr. and Mrs. R.J. Patrizio, of Muncy, in Germany on March 23.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rider of Muncy observed their 50th wedding anniversary on March 25.

Deaths: B. Lamont Day, formerly of Picture Rocks, died March 17; Miss Sara Chapin, 78, of Muncy, died March 25; Harvey Sones, 66, Hughesville, died March 22; Myron Hall, 90, of Picture Rocks, died March 21 at his home.

Area resident serving our country: On board the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan, Chief Petty Officer Freddie L. Blaser, Jr. He is the son of Freddie Sr. and Donna Blaser of Muncy.

Fire chief James MIchael and firefighter Brent Michael awarded brother and sister Laurel Wilson and Harley Thomas of Muncy an honorary one-day membership to Keystone Hook and Ladder Fire Company on March 25. They were awarded for the quick and responsible response to last Thursday morning when they sighted flames coming from the roof of a neighbor’s home.

The engagement was announced of Collette Augustine to Nathan Bigelow, son of Roxanna and Edwin Bigelow of Muncy.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Wertz of Muncy, a daughter, March 3. Mother former Christine Schweikart; Gina Bauman and Chris Reynolds, Montgomery, a daughter, March 17; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Emery, Hughesville, a son, March 19. Mother is former Billie Jo Ross.

Died: Helen Shaffer, 75, formerly of Hughesville-Muncy area, died March 23; Herman Fischer, Sr., 76, of Hughesville, died March 17; Gusty Snyder, Jr., 77, Watsontown, died March 23; Cora E. Leiser, 98, formerly of Muncy, died March 20; Vicki S. Bryan, 57, Muncy, died March 22.
