The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, July 28, 1904

Mr. and Mrs. William McClain and Mrs. Charles McClain, of Watsontown, spent a few days this week with Mr. and Mrs. C.I. Schoch.

William, young son of Rev. and Mrs. W.F. Steck, was badly injured when he was struck on the head by a brick, thrown into an apple tree by his brother John. The lad was carried to the office of Dr. Ray Lyons, and a number of stitches were required to sew up the wound in the young man’s forehead.

At the Pennsylvania National Guard encampment at Gettysburg Muncy will be represented by Howard Waldron, Foster Hall, and Guy Bryan.

While John Fahrenbach was tying a calf in his barn on Saturday the animal kicked him in the head. It is a very painful injury.

Thursday, July 31, 1913

Sprout, Waldron & Co., one of Muncy’s successful manufacturing plants, are building a large addition to their foundry.

Isaac Kleese, of Washington, Iowa, one of the Luminary’s oldest subscribers, called at our office this morning. Mr. Kleese came east to attend the celebration at Gettysburg, since which time he has been visiting friends in different parts of the state and county.

Thursday, July 28, 1938

Stanley Bryfogle Passes Away; ill two years- Was Prominent Flower Grower With Large Greenhouse in Muncy.

The marriage of Miss Dorothy Dunlap and Marvin Hartman, both of this place, will take place July 30th, in St. James Episcopal Church.

Died: Mrs. Caroline Apker, aged 80, died Friday morning following a long illness; Reuben D. Bartlett, aged 79, of Clinton Township, died Wednesday evening. He suffered a stroke last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. George Wilt motored to Champaign, Illinois, to visit the latter’s parents.

Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Pfleegor and daughter Betty and son Charles, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sprout and son, Joseph, and Mr. and Mrs. William Foucar and son Billy visited Col. And Mrs. L. Ray Poust at their cottage at Salladasburg, Sunday.

July 11, 1963

Laurence A. Long, Jr., was killed instantly on July 7 when he was involved in a one-car accident at 2:30 a.m. near Laporte.

Though all major construction problems had been nearly hurdled, last-minute technical difficulties delayed the opening of the new Muncy area swimming pool last weekend.

St. John’s Lutheran Church near Montgomery was the setting for the wedding of Miss Penny Schneider and Thomas Rishel on June 29.

Miss Donna Michael wed David Heiney on Saturday, July 6 at Trinity Lutheran church, Hughesville.

Twelve members of the Muncy High School Class of 1928 celebrated their 60th reunion at the home of Mildred Stiger, Hughesville.

Patricia E. Lamoreaux has graduated from The Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren L. Fry, Muncy, announced the engagement of their daughter, Karen Ann, to Daniel M. Zacharias, Michigan.

Area resident serving our country: Army Spc. Sherman L. Barto, Jr. is currently serving in Baghdad. Barto graduated from Hughesville High School in 1996 and is the son of Janice and Sherman Barto, Sr. of Pennsdale.

Pastor Bill Gibson and his wife Rosemarie arrived at their new home in Pennsdale the day before Thanksgiving 2002 and will assume the pastorates of Trinity United Methodist Church of Pennsdale and Huntersville United Methodist Church.

Dana L. Lockridge of Muncy became the bride of V. Scott Graham, Muncy, on April 19.

Birth: Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hogan, Muncy, a daughter, April 5.

Died: Cecil W. Thompson, 75, Montgomery, died May 26.
