The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Sept. 22, 1904

The two new houses being built on Market street are progressing rapidly, and will be beautiful homes, one owned by Mr. Fred Heilman and the other Mr. W.A. Greiner, the jeweler.

The following persons from this place will enter Bucknell this week: Edna Downing, Margaret Love, Roy Farr, A.M.Weaver, Thomas Wood and Romain Hassrick.

Cards have been issued for the wedding of Miss Sabina M. Painter, of this place, and Paul E. Shoemaker of Endeavor, Pa. The ceremony will be performed on October 5.

A son has been born to Mr.and Mrs. Herbert Schoch and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Voneida.

Mr. and Mrs. Willard Mozley have sold the opera house, on East Water street, to Harry P. Wolfe, of Montgomery, for a consideration of $4,500.

George Fuller, while working on a planer at the Robinson Mfg. Co. plant, Wednesday morning, had a fleshy part of his left hand very badly cut by being caught in the machine.

Thursday, Sept. 22, 1938

Mary Jean Mendenhall 15-month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mendenall, of South Market street returned home yesterday from the Williamsport hospital where she underwent treatment after drinking a quantity of gasoline, on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Heberton spent the week end with the formers’ mother, Mrs. Frank Rogers and Mr. Rogers while enroute from their wedding trip to their home in East Orange, N.J.

Excavations for the dungeons of the P. Webster Brosius castle, to be erected at Market and Pepper street, have begun.

A total of 1,527 students with more expected each day enrolled in the Muncy Joint Schools on Sept. 4.

Cub Pack 79 of Picture Rocks recently made a bus trip to the Benton AF radar station for a guided tour of the facilities, including a meal at the barracks mess hall.

Purchase of real estate in downtown Muncy, and plans to increase its common capital stock by $37, 500 were announced this week by officials of Citizens National Bank, of Muncy.

Lyco Squares, perennial prizewinners in the field of square dancing, have been invited to present a show at the great Allentown Fair on Sept. 20.

The four-apartment building at 23 North Main street has been purchased by Donald B. Wilt, of Muncy, from the estate of the late Mrs. J.C. Thomas, it was revealed this week.

Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Beatrice Walton, daughter of Mrs. Bess Walton, of Muncy, and John R. Walton of Ohio to John M. Royston, of Pittsburgh.

The Muncy School Board approved dedication of the newly-improved football stadium on Schuyler Avenue as the Stanley T. Schuyler Memorial Football Stadium at the board meeting Aug. 15.

Shelli Wallis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wallis of Muncy, has been named director of personnel at Mary Washington College.

Teresa Dewitt of Dushore, Tessie Moss of Montoursville, Dawn Bohensky of Dushore, and Julianne O’Donnell of Towanda attended the 16th annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, OH, along with 1818 other sets of twins from all over the U.S. including Alaska.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Seigfried of Muncy, a son, Aug. 10. Mother former Laurie B. Brandt.

Died: Helen A. Andrews, 75, Hughesville, died Aug. 11; V. Ruth Haskins, 87, formerly of Hughesville, died Aug. 13; Linda L. Crowe, 39, Muncy, died Aug. 13.

Bradley H. Oechler of Fairfield Township, was a keynote speaker at a memorial service and open house commemorating the end of the Korean War at the General John Burrows Historical Society in Montoursville Saturday.

Announcement has been made of the engagement of Christine R. Strouse, of Enola, daughter of Larry W. Strouse of Muncy, and the late Cathleen F. Neitz, to Albert E. Treadwell of Enola.

Petty Officer 2nd Class David Wommer, son of Irene Wommer of Hughesville, is among the sailors on board the USS Boone.

A party was held in honor of Dr. Bonnie Gardner on July 19 at the Muncy home of her mother Fannie Gardner McKee.
