Thursday, Nov. 17, 1904

ON last Friday evening Miss Marjory Petrikin entertained the club recently organized by the following young ladies of this place: Misses Ruth Kerr, Helen Peterman, Harriett Lawrence, Emma Lawrence, Margaret Noble, Lena Dimm, Blanche Bailey, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Marchmont, of Philadelphia.

Miss Rosetta Montgomery, who has been critically ill with typhoid fever at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Charles Heebner at Philadelphia, is slowly improving, being able during the past few day to take nourishment.

Thursday, Nov. 20, 1913

Mrs. C.B. Finch, who spent the summer and fall here, left for Madison Barracks, Sacketts Harbor, N.Y. this morning, where she will spend some time with her daughter, Mrs. W. Hocker.

A.M. Fahenstock has moved his tailor shop into the vacant room on the second floor of the Frey building.

H.H. Fritz has resigned his position as chief engineer of the Montgomery and Muncy Electric Light, Heat and Power Company to accept a position at the newly erected illuminating plant at Canton, Pa.

Thursday, Nov. 17, 1938

Ruth Bodine, Tri-Hi-Y President is general chairman of a dance which will be sponsored by the club as a Thanksgiving feature.

A brief report from the new free library shows that its services have long been needed in the community and are now being warmly received by the public.

Negotiations were completed this week between the Robinson Manufacturing Company of this place, and Harry C. Ritter, Inc., of Williamsport, for the manufacture of “The Pony Cycle,” by the local plant.

Married in a candlelight wedding on Oct. 17 were Miss Gloria Ruth Smith of near Muncy, and Carl R. Williams of Montgomery.

Miss Dorothy Florence McCoy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. McCoy, of near Muncy, and Ronald William dingle, were married on Monday, Oct. 14.

Miss Jane C. Herring, of Picture Rocks, became the bride of Richard D. Montgomery, Hughesville, on Oct. 19.

Phillip L. DeWire, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell DeWire, of Hughesville, has been elected vice president of the freshman class at Albright College, Reading.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 2332 enjoyed a hayride at Headacres Dairy recently, and the girls picked up their pumpkin supply for Halloween during the process.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gortner, who still maintain their own home at 114 New street, will quietly observe their 68th wedding anniversary on Oct. 24.

Dr. Stephen Frantz, a former Muncian currently a rodent and bat specialist with New York State Department of Health, says bats are not aggressive.

George J. Geib was appointed new director at Muncy Valley Hospital.

So far, the Muncy Adult Soccer League, The Arrows, kept a clean record this season with three wins, no losses and no ties.

Ralph Wilson, new manager and man behind the county at Muncy’s Hi-Lo Store.

Deaths: Pearl L. Huffman, 82, formerly Muncy, died Sept 26; Chester W. Temple, 78, Muncy, died Sept 21; Steve A. Berger, 33, Montgomery, died Sept 24.

Area resident serving our country: Air Force Airman Shawn N. Redding has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Redding is a 2002 graduate of Muncy High School, and is the son of Alice and Raymond Redding of Kepner Hill Road, Muncy.

Devin Dorward, 15, son of Christina and Dennis Dorward, of Muncy, received his Eagle Scout award in an Aug. 12 ceremony at his home.

Lower North Market Street in Muncy was closed off Friday, Sept. 19, courtesy of Hurricane Isabel remnants that left a tree splayed across the street.

Announcement has been made of the engagement of Susan Holtzapple of Alexandria, VA to Alex Roca, also of Alexandria.

Jane Opp of Hughesville netted the winning pull in the 4,000 pound class last Sunday at the Hughesville fairground.
