The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Dec. 1, 1904

On Friday evening burglars attempted to enter William Lawrence’s home on Lafayette street, but were frightened away before they gained an entrance.

Kurtz Brothers, who are running the shirt factory, report a boom in business. They have signed a contract with one of the largest shirt houses in New York City, who will take all the work they can put out in one year.

A very pleasant party was held at the home of Mrs. Russell McCarty, Muncy, Tuesday evening, in honor of her daughter, Miss Hazel’s birthday.

Mrs. George Heberton entertained at a sewing party Saturday afternoon. those present were Mrs. Harry Rogers, Mrs. T.K. Wood, Miss Charlotte Lloyd, Miss Nell Grange, Miss Frances Petrikin and Miss Sue Green.

Headline: Muncy Buried Under 10 inch Fall of Snow-Thanksgiving Day Brings Earliest Snowfall for November in Many Years

On Tuesday evening Washington Street, south from Penn street to the top of the hill was set aside and a large group of young people enjoyed a fine coasting party. The street surface was in fine condition and the sleds coasted for quite a distance.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wallis on Thanksgiving Day entertained in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Odell. Mrs. Odell was the former Miss Marian Watts, of Eagles Mere, a sister of Mrs. Wallis, who was married Wednesday evening, Nov. 23, to Mr. John Frederick Odell, of Picture Rocks.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Houseknecht, of Muncy, was quietly celebrated on Nov. 21, and that of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frantz, of Muncy, Nov. 22.

Five musicians from Muncy high school have been selected to participate in the district band festival: Miss Linda Murray, Robert Pidgeon, Ed Speary, Marilyn Corson, and Cassandra Murray.

Mr. and Mrs. John Mulligan will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18.

Miss Marjorie Joyce Weber, of Muncy, and Arthur Monroe Danley, of near Hughesville, wed on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Lowe and son, Larry, spend several days recently with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ohl at Gettysburg.

The Muncy Creek Twp. Supervisors met Oct. 5 and discussed preliminary plans for a connector road to link the Muncy Industrial Park with the beltway.

The town clock in Hughesville was dedicated at a ceremony Friday evening.

On Oct. 8 Penny Kay Avery, Muncy, became the bride of Scott Douglas Pardoe, Muncy.

An Exhibition of paintings by Bruce Storm begins Oct. 14 in the gallery at B and S Picture Frames Inc., Williamsport.

The Muncy Normal School held their reunion on Oct. 1 with Mabel Plotts, Ted Walters, Master of Cermonies, Betty Hurr, Edith Fague, Maggie Fague, Margaret Reed, Thelma Bubb, Margaret Berger, Ruth Bruchlacher, Jessie Saxe, and Grace Kohler.

Students from Jessica Kerstetter’s first grade class at Myers Elementary School visited the Keystone Hook and Ladder Company Fire Station in Muncy last Thursday in observance of Fire Prevention Week.

More than 80 friends, family and colleagues gathered at Lycoming College to honor Ronald G. Montgomery, the 2003 inductee into the Hugehsville High School Academic Hall of Fame.

Two still-spirited classmates from 1948, Katie Wallis and Sis Montgomery Smith, enthusiastically joined other alumni from decades ago in spreading Spartan spirit among the crowd at Hughesville High School football game.
