The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Dec. 22, 1904

Mrs. Sarah Petrikin, wife of Hon H.W. Petrikin, passed away at her home near Montoursviille, on Sunday, December 18, in the sixty-eighth year of her age.

College boys who are home for the Christmas holidays are Raymond Oberfell and Paul Vandine of State College, and Harris Waldron of Bucknell.

Miss Florence Tallman accompanied Mr. H. K. Cuddy and son to Philadelphia on Friday, where she will visit his family for some time, also relatives in New York City.

Thursday, Dec, 25, 1913

Miss Evelyn Hill, of this place, was married to Robert Archer, of Picture rocks, last Wednesday evening. The bride was attended by Miss Carrie Michael as bride of honor, and Herbert C. Finkle as best man.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis S. Sprout and daughters, Mary and Dorothy, of St. Mary’s are here to spend the holidays with Mrs. James Coulter and family.

Paul Shoemaker, who has been visiting friends here for the past weeks, left Saturday night for his home at Boise, Idaho.

Thursday, Dec. 22, 1938

At the conclusion of a Christmas party held at the Muncy Play Center which is in the John Schoch home, little Jimmy Schoch overheard the remark that the decorations would be removed so that Santa Claus could trim the tree.

Miss Ada Mae Stetler, of Muncy, has presented the Muncy Valley Edward J. Smith Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, with an oil painting depicting “The Americans at Chateau-Thierry,” which she painted.

Mistaking gasoline for kerosene Saturday Saturday night, while building a fire in a kitchen stove Clarence Van Buskirk, of Muncy suffered extensive first and second degree burns when the fluid exploded.

Died: Richard Pryor aged 29, died at the Williamsport Hospital this morning after a short illness.

Postmaster John Reuther said Monday that “this certainly looks like a record breaking year for Christmas mail.

Piano pupils of Mrs. Doyle Dodson presented a Christmas recital at her home recently. Those taking part included: Linda Seig, Virginia Entz, Angela Ryder, Eva Rae Green, Cameron Day, Nancy Starr, Cynthia Day, Donna Green and Sharon Chamberlain.

Stanley Schuyler, president of the Muncy Education Assoc., will represent Muncy teachers as the official delegate to the 111th convention of the PA State Education Association in Harrisburg Dec. 26-28.

Home on leave is Kent Rager, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Rager. Kent is stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D. C. with the U.S. Navy.

At Ferrell elementary in Picture Rocks, student decorated a “Christmas Tree for the Birds:. Popcorn strings, doughnuts, bird seed and peanut butter on pine cones adorned the tree.

The engagement was announced of Margaret Ellen McKenna of Churchville, Pa, to Capt. Gregory E. Herman, M.D., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Herman of Muncy R.D.

Grumman’s first annual Christmas party was held Dec. 17 at the Grumman LLV plant in Montgomery.

Susan Stackhouse is one of nearly 2000 Team in Training members nationwide who will be participating in a Century Bike Ride on June 6, 2004 at Lake Tahoe for the benefit of the Leukemia/Lymphoma.

Employees at Muncy Valley Hospital enjoyed a festive annual Christ tea, hosted by the hospital auxiliaries, in the hospital dining room on Dec. 10.
