Thursday, Dec. 29, 1904

Fred E. Gohrs, of this place, and Miss Ottie Gearhart, of Hagerstown, Md., were married at the latter place Monday morning.

Taylor and Eaker, proprietors of the City Flouring MIlls presented on Christmas a sack of flour to all needy self-supporting widows of this place, and Sprout, Waldron & Co., gave each of their employees a turkey.

A.S. Gaunt has purchased the house on South Market street, in which he has lived for several years, from L.H. Poust, of Williamsport.

Charles E. Ecroyd, of Pennsdale, spent Monday with his brother, Dr. Henry Ecroyd and family.

Car Crash at Main and Water STreets-Army Truck, Taveling West Said to Have Run INto Car Going South on Main STreet.

Strong biting winds from the west brought a real taste of winter to Muncy Tuesday and Wednesday, following a mixture of rain and snow which fell Monday evening.

The following account of the death of Mrs. John Sloane, of Olean, N.,Y was published in the Olean Times-Herald Monday, Dec. 19th: Mrs. Nancy Montgomery Sloane, born in Muncy March 11, 1872, passed away eight twenty-five o’clock this morning at Olean General Hospital.

Died: Charles A. Thorpe, 98, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Melvin Powell, near town, Friday night.

Whether the election of Thomas Wood as judge or the opening of the new swimming pool–or something else, perhaps – was the top news story of the area in 1963, there were many significant developments in the year which has just closed.

Mrs. David E. Wallis, president of the Muncy Jaycee Wives, presented a check this week for $100 to Robert L. Cannon Jr., Administrator of Muncy Valley Hospital for the hospital’s Special Equipment fund.

Paul Geringer Re-Elected Fire Chief, Balliet President; Sloan Quits After 17 Years Treasurer.

Miss Susie Pfleegor, a sophomore at Mansfield State College, was crowned “Holly Queen: at the annual charity ball here last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stover and daughter, Lynne Beth, of N.Y., are spending this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Stover of Picture Rocks.

Wedding vows were exchanged Dec. 28 between Miss Joyce Hessler of Muncy and Frederick Fogelman, also of near Muncy.

Miss Vicki Dahlgren, of Hughesville wed James O. Richard, Muncy, Dec. 20.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hileman was adjudged first place winner in the Hughesville home decoration contest sponsored by the newly organized Hughesville Jaycees.

Births: Glenda Joy is the name given to the daughter born to Sgt.,1C Gene O’Connor at Fort Knox, Ky.

Died: James Ellis, 48, Muncy, died Dec. 19 when he was struck in the head by a falling timber; Thomas O. Ryder, 80, Hughesville, Dec. 30; Walter F. Vandine, 53, Hughesville, Jan. 1.

David and Joanie Wallis of Muncy received an unusual and early Christmas gift this year from one of their sons-in-law, Capt. Dakota R. Smith, who was stationed in Iraq. The Wallises received an American flag that had been flying on top of the Iraq presidential palace.

As part of a unit about pioneer days, third graders at Ward L. Myers Elementary School learned about dulcimer music from Lucy and Bruce Henry who entertained the students with Appalachian mountain music as well as Christmas carols.

Mr. and Mrs. James Keller, Hughesville, celebrated 50 years of marriage on Dec. 26.

Kristi Fenstermacher of Muncy has been accepted to Harvard College for the fall of 2004.

Births: A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Edkin, Hughesville, Dec. 11. Mother former Julie Street.

Spring Window Fashion plant in Montgomery received Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence.
