The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, Jan. 26, 1905

An operation for Trephining was performed by Dr. Ernest LePlace, at the Medico-Chirurigal hospital, Philadelphia, on William S. Weaver, of the Muncy Valley House, the operation being entirely successful.

Clinton Guyer, the well known machinist of this place, was operated on at the Williamsport Hospital last week, for the removal of one of his eyes, which was injured when a small piece of steel was embedded in it some time ago.

Thursday, Jan. 29, 1914

While Rev. A.R. DeWitt was driving to Exchange on Sunday to conduct services, the sleigh upset when he was about a mile from Exchange, throwing Mr. DeWitt out, landing unhurt in the snow, but the driver was dragged for some distance, being quite badly cut and bruised.

Hammond Fahrenbach has purchased from Murray Zealor is property on E. Water Street. Mr. Zealer purchased the Webb property, corner of Washington and New Streets.

Thursday, Feb. 2, 1939

Paying a visit to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel HIll, at the crest of “Mile Hill,” about nine o’clock last night, two young men slugged the aged man, after pressing him for cash, and after finding a sum of money made their escape.

The harness shop and store of Samuel Kline, on West water street was entered some time after midnight, Tuesday night, and robbed of the entire stock of cigarettes, amount to some $10 or $11 worth.

Sharkey Hand, a brother of Henry E. Hand, police chief Montgomery, who was slain, met a violent death this week when he was fatally injured in a mining accident near Orwig.

Lee G. Yost, currently recovering from a serious bout with double pneumonia, received cheering news this week when it was learned he will be awarded the honorary Keystone Farmer Degree at the 1964 State Farm Show in Harrisburg.

Two Muncy are young men have enlisted in the U.S. Navy. They are Roger James YOung, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben James Young, and Bruce Leroy Sones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sones. Both are sophomores at MHS.

Announcement has been made of the engagement of Patricia McCarty, Muncy, to David A. Hick, Picture Rocks.

The engagement of Mary Lou Odon, Muncy, to Clyde E. Mingle,Turbotville, has been announced.

The announcement of an engagement of Mary M. Geist, to Thomas Worrall, Jr. Miss Geist attended Muncy schools.

Jayne Kay Miller, Muncy, became engaged to Raymond Lee Johnson, of near Turbotville.

Announcement of an engagement between Miss Sherry Bennett, Muncy, to A/2c James R. Musser, Muncy.

Wanda Lee Yocum, Turbotville, will wed William Groom of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
