Headline: 28.78 River Crest Causes Worst Flood Since ’50-The worst flood to ravage the West Branch Valley since 1950 spewed ugly water over a vast portion of Muncy Tuesday and Wednesday as the Susquehanna reached the awesome depth of 28.78 feet before cresting about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, March. 11.
The Muncy Joint School Board made an historic move at its regular March meeting on Monday when it unanimously voted to proceed with plans to create one school district from the three which now comprise the joint board.
Deaths: The sudden death of 16-year old Jack W. Banghart, of Muncy, was caused by the rare spinal meningitis, an autopsy showed this week according to an announcement by County Coroner Dr. Earl Miller. H. Lorain Schoch, 58, of Muncy, died Sunday, March 8; C. Larue Williamson, 53, former resident of PIcture Rocks, died Feb. 28.
Robert Stauffer has returned to his post at Seattle, Wash., after spending a 15-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey F. Stauffer.
On Friday, the WEst Branch cheerleading competition will be staged at East Lycoming high school with eight schools sending entries.
Explorer Post 78 of Hughesville took first place in the annual swim meet of West Branch Council last Saturday. With Bruce Starr, advisor in charge, the Hughesville young men toped the seven other units entered, with competition in free style, relay and “cripple” races.

Area resident serving our country: PFC Kristopher R. Clayton. Clayton was called to active duty Feb. 11, 2003. He is a 1997 graduate of Hughesville High School and is the son of Kay Clayton, Muncy, and Raymond Clayton, Hughesville.
For the second consecutive year Muncy won the District 4 Class A title last weekend in overtime defeating Elkland.
Nathan Grenoble, president of the Kiwannis Club of Muncy Area, presented a $350 check to Evelyn Derrick, president of the board of trustees of the Muncy Public Library for their children’s summer reading program.
A giant stork arrived in Muncy and delivered a baby boy, Carson James on Feb. 22. Proud parents are Nichol and Richard Ernst.
