The Muncy Luminary

Thursday, April 20, 1905

On Saturday last Squire Malcolm McFadden, of East Muncy, lifted his commission for Justice of the Peace, of Muncy Creek Township.

Cloud C. Rutter, of the Express force, received today direct from Tonopa, Nevada, a fine specimen of gold ore. It came from his uncle, H.H.Cloud, mining engineer, who is working some claims in the Goldfield districts.

The Winfield Club won out at the shoot at the Gun Club grounds on Saturday. Out of 125 birds Winfield secured 92, Muncy 83 and Hughesville, 70. Travis of Winfield and confer of Muncy killed 21 out of 25.

Thursday, April 19, 1917

Charles R. Gundrum, of this place, and Miss C. Esther Michael, Hughesville, were united in marriage at noon Wednesday.

Last week a number of the employees of Sprout, Waldron & Co. purchased a lot of tobacco and presented it to the National Guardsmen who are guarding the railroad bridge over the river here.

M.E. Reeder and Samuel Rogers returned home on Wednesday from Dunwoody where they had been fishing for the “speckled beauties.”

Dr. and Mrs. W.R. Petrie and Mrs. DelRay Sprout will leave on Saturday morning for a ten-day motor trip through the Southern states. Dr. Petrie will shoot alligators in Florida with gun and camera.

Died: G.R. Hutchinson, Williamsport, died Tuesday afternoon.

The Keystone Hook & Ladder Co. received a call at 9:30 Sunday morning, to extinguish a chimney fire at the home of Ray Rider, North Main Street.

Although the ground has been too wet for general gardening a number of devotees of the spade and hoe have been energetically planting seeds.

Mrs. Esther Roberts, Leon E. McCaslin, and Mrs. James Dunlap are three new teachers hired for Muncy Joint Schools.

A four-year scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh has been awarded to Eddie Heincelman, an outstanding Muncy high school senior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Heincelman, of Muncy.

Miss Carol Smith, Muncy, engaged to William A. Hughes, also of Muncy.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dunn, Picture Rocks, on April 7. Mother former Dorothy Laurenson.

A double ring ceremony on April 4 united Miss Ann Louise Corson, Hughesville, to John E. Pignatore, of New York City.

Died: Henry Stiger, 82, Hughesville, died April 14; Esther M. Reed, Hughesville, died April 6 following an illness of four and one-half months; Martha T. Hoff, 89, Montgomery, died April 10 in the Fernandez nursing home.

Muncy borough council held a special meeting on April 10 and acted to ratify its demotion in rank of former police chief Sidney Gable.

Denise Grittner, Montgomery High School, represented her school at the 11th Annual Central PA Leadership Seminar of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation in Lancaster County.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Frantz of Muncy announce the engagement of their daughter, Wendy, to Frank Arbushites of Shenandoah Heights.
