Thursday, May 25, 1905

Miss Elsie McBride of this place and Harry Watt of Eagles Mere, were married by Rev. D.L. Woods of the Baptist Church, Thursday evening last.

While Walter Corson, last Saturday morning, was going down Water Street, on his way to the Pennsylvania Station to meet a train, his team became frightened at a lineman climbing a pole, and ran away. Mrs. John Barbour, one of the passengers, was thrown from the carriage, breaking her right leg in two places.

Thursday, May 24, 1917

A dispatch from Hagerstown, Md., May 19, said that among the marriage licenses issued was one of Eugene G. Lowry, Philadelphia, and Ruth Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith, of Muncy.

Among the winers in the subscription contest of the Philadelphia North American, was Miss Nell Grange of this place who received a $20 gold piece. Her total votes number nearly 500,000.

Mrs. Kenneth Wood entertained at her home on North Main Street, Thursday evening, at which time the engagement of of her sister, Miss Edith Bailey, to Paul Rishel was announced.

An overheated electric iron last Thursday evening was the cause of a fire at the home of Mrs. A.P. Taylor which might have resulted in a serious loss had it not bee for the prompt and efficient methods employed by the Keystone Hook and Ladder Company in extinguishing the blaze.

Cards have been received by a number of Muncy people announcing the marriage of Jane Newman Bailey, of New Jersey, to Mr. Robert Frank Shelton, on the twentieth of May.

A fifteen cent advertisement in The Muncy Luminary last week recovered a coin purse which had been lost and which contained over $10 in cash.

Muncy people making an early trip to the New York World’s Fair report a marvelous exhibition but eats a little high price.

A nation rejoices today at the news that 33 of the 59 men trapped in the U.S. Submarine Squalus, fifteen miles off Portsmouth, .H. in 240 feet of water, had been safely brought to the surface by the use of a newly perfected diving bell or rescue chamber.
