Thursday, Sept. 14, 1905

The body of William Updegraff, the man who disappeared a week ago, was found shortly before noon on Sunday, stranded on what is known as Fisher’s Island about two miles below Montgomery.

Married: Donald Dewald, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dewald, of near Hartley Hall, and Miss Elsie Winegardner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Winegardner of this place, were married at Camden, N.J., on last Wednesday.

On Friday evening, Leonard G. Rogers most pleasantly entertained a large number of friends at his home on Main street. A delightful luncheon was served and the evening enjoyably spent in games.

Ethel Jewell, the two-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Stolz, who was so terribly scaled by falling in a bucket of boiling water last Thursday, died at her home on Monday afternoon.

The Roll of Honor of Muncy boys now serving Uncle Sam, now contains 64 names, the largest enrollment of any borough in the county, also including Williamsport.

Misses Leeta and Margaret Soars have gone to New Jersey where they will teach school this winter.

Mrs. Myrtle Watt has purchased the property on South Main Street now occupied by Mrs. W. Maggs.

Despondent over the loss of his employment and worried over an impending trial, John Wesley Campbell, 36 years of age, of Muncy R.D. 3, is said to have taken his own life by shooting himself in the left temple with a 22 calibre rifle. He leaves a wife and four children, all under eight years of age.

The Keystone Hook and Ladder Company participated in a parade of fire apparatus and units at Bloomsburg, last Friday evening, and returned home with first place cup for the largest aggregation in the line.

Died: Sarah Anthony, aged 75, died Sunday morning at the Country Home; Dr. Frederick W. Robbins, former superintendent of the Williamsport public school system, died Sept. 6; John D. Gordner, 88, Millville, died Sunday morning; J. Ollie Gordner, 65, Millville, is reported to have drowned himself in Little Fishing Creek, Tuesday afternoon, shortly after returning form the funeral of his uncle, John D. Gordner, where he acted as pall bearer.

The warehouse owned by PP&L company on South Market Street in Muncy was completely gutted in a $20,000 fire detected on Aug. 11.

The resignation of Mrs. Lynn (Doris) Poust as a teacher in the third grade, and hired Mrs. Catherine Keene as her replacement.

Mrs. Dorothy O’Connor and daughters Bonnie and Nancy, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mausteller, of Hughesville, have returned from vacation at Ocean City, N.J.
