Friday, December 13, 1877

Married-In Muncy Creek township on the 6th inst. by Rev. Geo. Eicholtz, Levi Hill, of Port Penn and Miss Alice Gray of Muncy.

D. Clapp & Co.s steam saw mill has been shut down for the winter after a very successful season.

Owing to the unusual number of robberies in town a night watch has been put on.

Dec. 13, 1917

Thomas G. Stolz, F.H. Fahnestock, Earl Montague, and Russell Vermilya motored to Camp Meade last Friday and spent Saturday and part of Sunday with former’s son, George, and other Muncy boys in camp there.

The following men have been certified for service by the district board at Scranton to the division board No. 2, sitting at Montoursville Frederick Lee Gouldner Muncy; Oliver C. Stine, Muncy; Hayes L. Person, Williamsport, Walter James Shipman, Muncy; George Stanley Simper, Trout Run; Cornelius A. Cummings, Kellysburg.

Ward Plotts, aged 46 years, a well-known farmer resident near Turbotville, died Saturday in the Danville hospital from a fractured skull caused by a blow from a pitchfork in the hands of John Reynolds, a neighbor.

Died: Romamus L. Long, who has been ill for some time, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. William Deisher, in Muncy Creek Township, Thursday evening at the age of 77 years; William W. Wertman, died at his home on Mechanic street, on Saturday morning, after a long illness, aged 79 years, 4 months and 4 days; George Horton died at Johnson City, Tenn., on Wednesday of last week, aged 71 years; Thomas Isaiah Butler, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Butler, died on Monday at their home at Port Penn.

Born: A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. George W. Banzhaf on Monday, Dec. 10.

Gerald Huston, of Wellsboro, spent a few days in Muncy with Grant Taggart Jr.

The many friends of Mrs. James Brittain of Haverford, will be glad to learn that she is now recovering nicely from an attack of Rheumatic fever.

Miss Elsie Rogers of Pennsdale, who was badly injured in a fall from a ladder about two weeks ago, and who then developed pneumonia, is now reported much better at the Williamsport Hospital.

Mr. Fred Stolz, of Allentown, formerly of this place, is now an assistant buyer for the well known Hess Brothers Department Store of Allentown.

Three young men, all recent resident of Muncy, now have good positions with the Mack Motor Truck Corp. in Allentown, Gene Stolz, Harry Gundrum, Jr., and Charles Poust.

Historical Society Notes by T.K. Wood-Items from the Lycoming Gazette 1807-1812: Our Muncy Wm. Bundle was the editor. Thomas Jefferson was President and Aaron Burr was being tried for treason as appears in the news of the day. In 1808 James Madison was President carrying every county in Pennsylvania except 4, the total vote being only 1748. The polling place in Muncy was “at the House of Widow Merrill in town of Pennsborough in Muncy Creek Township”. This was the log tavern built by the McCartys on the site of the present Herr store.

Pvt. Edmund Fogleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fogelman, Muncy, has returned home after spending six months with the Army on active reserve duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Tom Springman, MHS graduate and son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Springman, of Pennsdale, closed out a brilliant football career as a lineman at Lycoming College when the Warriors defeated Muhlenburg, 9-0, last Saturday.

Marriage announced of Bonnie Lou Edwards, Muncy, to Terry Phillips, of Montoursville, on Friday, Oct. 30.

Porter Rathmell, a freshman at Colgate, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rathmell, Muncy.
