150 years ago

Hon. Henry Johnson, of this borough, delivered an oration at Wellsboro, of this state.

We regret to learn that W.C. Bryan, of Montoursville, a member of Company D, 5th Pa. cavalry, was among those who lost their lives though the cruelty of the rebels at Andersonville.

Dr. Michael Steck, late Indian agent in New Mexico, passed through this borough Saturday evening on his way to Hughesville.

Married-At Lewisburg, July 4, by Rev. T.M. Shanafielt, of Muncy, Lieut. James Cummings, of Bellefonte, and Miss Mary R. Stoner, of Watsontown.

Married-On the 4th day of July, at the hotel of Mr. Kahler, by the Rev. George C. Drake, Mr. Jacob Kramer, of White Hall, Montour county, to Miss Mary, daughter of William McBride, of the same place.

On Monday evening the passenger train on the P. and R.R.R. ran into the horse and wagon of Mr. Jacob Herbst at Saegers crossing, maiming the horse, demolishing the wagon and injuring Mr. Herbert quite badly.

A fishing party consisting of Mr. and Mrs. W.H.H. Walton, Miss S.A. Painter and Mr. A.W. Tallman spent two days at Rock Run last week. They had good luck, fine weather and a pleasant time.

Misses Ida and Lulu Johnson, who have been pupils in Hellmuth Ladies’ College, London, Canada, returned home last week.

Rev. Milton E. Lightner, a prominent and influential presbyter of the Episcopal church, died of apoplexy last Thursday, in the 61st year of his age.

Just two installments remain to complete the set of Tissot paintings being given on Sunday evenings at the Baptist Church.

By the readjustment of the salaries of Postmasters by the Postmaster General the salary of Muncy office has been increased from $2300 to $2400.

Friends and neighbors congregated at the home of Eli C. Reed, of Unityville, R.D. No. 1, near Germany church, on Wednesday of last week, to assist in the raising of a large bank barn which was erected under the management of John C. Fenstamaker.

Died: Sarah M. Wallis, died Wednesday of last week at the home of William Ellis Haines, Esq., Aynhoe, near Pennsdale. She was 73 years of age and had been in the Haines family for 37 years.

J.B. Datesman, who some years ago was a resident of Muncy, died Tuesday evening, aged 83 years.

Married-Miss Emma Alice Frantz, of Muncy, and Mathias Edward Frey, of Montgomery, were married last Wednesday, June 30th.

Charlotte Metzger, Warrior Run, becomes the bride of Robert L. Sones of Sullivan County on June 26.

Miss Sharon Kay Stackhouse is married June 27 to Clyde (Skip) Houseknecht, of near Muncy.
