Oliver Ritter, of this place, was waylaid by two men in one of the public streets of Williamsport Tuesday night. He was knocked down with a billy, receiving a severe wound on the head. A Mr. Reese heard his cries, went to his assistance and the men fled.
A soldier from Fulton, N.Y., was found along the railroad track on Saturday morning last, near Montgomery station so terribly cut and mangled about the head and shoulders, legs and one arm, be being run over by the cars, that he died soon after being discovered.
The old idea existing among fishermen that shad will not bite at a hook has been dispelled. One day last week. C.J. Burner and A F. Clapp, of Sunbury, caught two shad with hook and line in the river below the dam. Two others were raised out of the water, but escaped before they could be recovered.

The census returns gives Muncy a population of 1,174, Hughesville 800, Jersey Shore, 1,411, MUncy Creek township, 1,706, Muncy township, 810, and Clinton township, 1,675.
Coup’s great show exhibited at Williamsport.
Fruits of all kinds is exceedingly plenty.
Mrs. C.L. Petrikin, of Philadelphia, is visiting with MRs. F.H. Petrikin.
Died-In this borough, on Tuesday, Mrs. Barbara Bodine, 83 years of age.
Rev. and Mrs. George Righter, of Mansfield, are visiting Muncy friends. Mr. R. assisted at Mrs. Bodine’s funeral on Tuesday.

The tennis courts are well patronized an many are receiving instructions in the game.
We regret to announce that Jordan Walton is very ill at his home on North Main street with only slight hopes of his recovery.
John Hall, while cutting wheat on his farm near Pennsdale on Monday, was run over by the binder and badly injured.
Died: Mr. Phebe Teresa Tule, died at her home at Montoursville road Monday, July 12, aged 50 years, 10 months and five days.
Clyde Miller and Miss Nellie Davis, of Muncy R.D. NO. 3, were united in marriage on July 5 at Hagerstown, Md.

The signatures of approximately 1,400 area residents have been affixed to a petition which was presented this week to the state asking for the eventual installation of a portable dam across the Susquehanna River at Montgomery to create a recreational area.
A wave of area robberies extending over a period of many months was believed solved this week with the arrest of two young men-Donald Eugene PHillips and Luther Bardo, both of the Montgomery area.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 19, for James C. Rogers, 67-year old longtime Muncy resident who was killed in an automobile accident near Rawlins, Wyo., on July 14.
Miss Ann G. Gautsch, of Muncy, engaged to Richard Heltner, Harrisburg.
Miss Linda Kay Griggs, Muncy, became the bride of Dennis W. Baker, of Baltimore, Md., on July 17.
Alan L. Foust, of Hughesville, has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the high school nuclear program and is now taking recruit training at Great Lakes. Ill., naval station.
