The Muncy Luminary

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 1865

150 years ago

J.P. Guyer opened an eating house in the basement of the building, corner Main and High streets.

Two barns in Clinton twp. one belonging to Peter Sheddy and the other to Robert Montgomery, the latter occupied by William Pumer, were destroyed by fire on WEdnesday night last. The barn burned nearly at the same house and were three-quarters of a mile apart.

Ellis Ayres, of this place, a member of the 84th Regiment, PV., who was wounded nearly three ears ago, was finally discharged for physical disability. The ball took effect in the mouth, and its whereabouts has never been discovered.

135 years ago

It is just one year today since the Brady monument was unveiled and dedicated.

J. Frank Litchad, of Muncy Creek Township, fell from a chestnut tree on Tuesday of last week and was very seriously injured.

Edward Cooke died early Thursday morning after three months’ illness, aged 34 years.

Died: Mary K. Miller, 78 years of age, of Montgomery.

A corn-cutting bee took place at the farm of Edward Wheeland, of Oak Run.

Married-Miss Alice Brobst, of this place, and Charles Russell, of Niagara Falls, were united in marriage on Wednesday.

Parking meter returns for the month of September in Muncy Borough were reported as $216.10.

The Henry Frey family has moved from the Bailiff house to their new house just east of Pennsdale, and now their former home is being repaired…when its ready, the Dick Jones family will moved from the Wishing Well farm, which they sold, to the Bailiff House which they have rented…and the Henry Kirk III family will moved into the Wishing Well farm from Eagles.
