Tuesday, May 1, 1866

150 years ago

Married-On the 26th inst. in Muncy borough, Andrew Sharer and Miss Mary Starr, both of Franklin township.

Died-On board the steamer “Silver Lake,” near Letart Falls, Ohio river, April 3, of diphtheria, Blanche, daughter of Col. W. W. S. and Mary M. Snoddy, aged 1 year.

William J. Opp, son of Thomas J. Opp, of Muncy Creek Township, was so seriously injured Saturday last by being thrown from a wagon in a runaway, that he died on Sunday morning at 9 o’clock. The age of the deceased was 15 years.

A musical convention will be held in Hughesville commencing May 22, to continue four days.

J. B. Little, of Picture Rocks, who was murderously assaulted by robbers at City Point, Va., on the 5th ult, has so far recovered from his injury-a fracture of the skull-as to return home.

135 years ago

Died-At her home in this borough, quite suddenly, on Sunday morning, April 24, Miss Carrie Ort.

Robert Barr, of Port Penn, while repairing the canal bridge near the P. & R. depot last Friday, cut himself on the arm with an axe.

During the performance at the circus last Saturday night a portion of the seats agave way, injuring a number of persons, the most seriously being George Colley, of East Muncy, whose leg was broken in six places. The management of the circus settled with Mr. Colley’s father by the payment of $82.

Some thieves effected an entrance into the clothing store of John H. Roker recently and stole goods to the amount of $100.

Thirty Muncy people saw “The Union Spy” in Williamsport Thursday evening.

100 years ago

A Holstein calf and seventy-five dollars in money will be awarded as prizes in the farmers’ five-acre corn contest which will be held this year under the auspices of the farm bureau.

J. Raymond McCarty, of Muncy, and Miss Hazel Parker, of Sonestown, were married yesterday at Lewistown.

Miss Marion May Egli, and Robert Plankenhorn, were married on Saturday at the Methodist Episcopal church.

Died: Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Seiler died at her home on South Main street early Monday morning, aged 78 years, 4 months and 29 days; Mrs. Isabella McCarty, died at her home at Glade Run Thursday morning. She was aged 76 years; Norman I. Fague, a well known and prosperous farmer of Penn township, died at his home Friday after an illness of two weeks.

Many area residents joined thousands all over the Easter Seaboard in witnessing an “Unidentified Flying Object” which traversed the skies about 8:20 p.m. Monday, April 25. And for as many people who saw it you could hear as many descriptions of what it was, how it looked, its trajectory, and, of course, its identity.

Muncy HIgh School cheerleaders captured first place honors when the ninth annual Central Pennsylvania Cheerleading competition was held April 22 at Loyalsock high school.

Mrs. James Muffly, of Muncy, has been hired as a part-time dental hygienist at East Lycoming schools.

Miss Susan Maciejewski, of Hughesville, and Stanley F. Lyons, Muncy, were married April 16.

Miss Sue E. Fenstamaker, of Williamsport, and John M. Young, of Pennsdale, were marred April 23.

Miss Sherry Baxter was honored at a pre-nuptial variety shower given recently by Mrs. Carl Barto and Mrs. Dean Fry at the home of Mrs. Chauncy Persun.

Mother former Bonnie Edwards; Mr.and Mrs. Alton W. Woodside, Unityville, a son, April 25. Mother former Geralda Robbins; Mr.and Mrs. Kenneth McCormick, Muncy, a daughter, April 27. Mother former Carol Iron.

Died: Mrs. Mary (Mame) Fortner, 84, of Hughesville, April 21.
