150 years ago

Another destructive fire in Williamsport Sunday morning, causing a loss of $25,000.

J.T. Funston, John Delaney and Noble Parkers are the Union standing committeemen for Muncy borough.

A meeting of the Lycoming County Musical association will be held in Picture Rocks, Aug. 4.

A barn belonging to Mrs. Blain in the neighborhood of the old Hause tavern, in Anthony township, Montour county, was struck by lightning during the storm Sunday night and consumed. The light from the burning barn was distinctly seen in this borough.

The sessions of superior court held in Williamsport since 1895 have been discontinued and will be hereafter held at Harrisburg.

Died-At his residence in Muncy, July 21, George Shaffer, aged 84 years; At his home in Clarkstown, July 20, Philip Hill, aged 78 years.

Fry and Hartranft, the wagon-makers, last week sent one of their wagons to West Virginia, the second to go south during the past year.

John Moon, a former resident of east Muncy, died at his home in Michigan, July 7.

A party of young folk had a hop at the Trout Pond, Tuesday evening.

100 years ago

Automobile Dropped into Deep Gully-Accident Near Clarkstown Last Week Showed That Some Person Was Negligent-Frank Snyder and Lee Wolf of Williamsport drove off a wagon bridge and dropped in a gully eight feet deep in Clarkstown.

Comrade Thos. J. Ellis, the well known farmer and fruit grower of the Muncy Hills, was in town on Friday last and attended the meeting of Bryson Post in the evening. “Tom” has the auto fever and will not be happy until he joins the Ford army.

The license tags that each hunter must wear on his arm are this year pink in color.

Chester Artler, who resides near Chippewa, ran a nail into his foot last Friday causing a nasty wound.

Lester Montague, aged 7 years, son of Thomas Montague, was drowned in the Muncy Creek Friday afternoon, the accident occurring near his home.

Died: William H. Frey, aged 18 years, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his parents, at Pennsdale; Mrs. Charlotte Brownell died at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, July 19, aged 82 years; The Rev. William Perry Eveland, missionary bishop of the Methodist Episcopal church for the Philippine Islands, who has been missing since Monday when he started on a fishing trip, was found dead Tuesday near Mount Holly springs, having been electrocuted, his steel fishing rod came in contact with a high tension electric wire.

Thrills and spills are guaranteed for the Johnny King auto thrill show, a new spectacle at the annual Lycoming County Fair at Hughesville.

Muncy Jaycees have announced the dates for their annual summer festival with J C president Dan Eichenlaub as general chairman.

The Muncy high school band made its first appearance in the new uniforms when they marched in the big firemen’s parade last Thursday night.

John Helidorfer, Sue Nielsen and Jan Pfleegor were honored by their classmates and adviser, Bob Winn, at the pool party featuring swimming, singing and of course, food.

It’s well worth a trip to Headacres DAiry near Halls Station for big kids and little kids to see the latest addition to Jim Gleason’s menagerie-it’s a five-year old black money named “Chico”.
