140 years ago

Married-At the Presbyterian parsonage, Muncy, on the 4th inst., Joseph E. Hall, of Muncy Station, and Maggie Doctor, of Turbotville.

Died: In this borough on Thursday afternoon, April 5, Mrs. Barbara Fowler, widow of James Fowler, aged 102 years.

The engine and boiler of the new Keystone Paint mill was tested last week and proved satisfactory. Charles Richter done all the machine work of the mill.

The new borough counsel organized by the election of James Bowman, president, and Charles A. Bowers, Esq., secretary and treasurer.

E.C. Wells is fitting up his room, formerly occupied by Verga, as a store room. A.J. Heivley, of Willamsport, we understand will be the coming merchant.

Died-In this borough, March 31, Mrs. Elmira, wife of Isaiah Butler.

Charles Miexell has moved his tin shop from Hughesville to Muncy.

Harvey Hinkle, who has been in the employ of R.M. Green & Bros., for several years has moved to Muncy Valley, where he will work in the tannery.

C.A. Foster, who travels for Waldron and Sprout, has moved his family to town.

J.T. Walton, for fourteen years a carriage trimmer with Thos. Gotelius, at Mifflinburg , has moved with his family to Muncy.

Vincent Verga, merchant tailor, has moved to L.E. Schuyler’s office, corner of Main and High streets.

Sixteen car loads of steel rails arrived at Glen Mawr recently and at an early date the W.& N.B.R.R. will be continued up as far as Sonestown.

Frank Baker, of Lock Haven, has taken charge of the restaurant formerly conducted by W.G. Harwick, in the Crawford House building.

Borough Gets $28.06 as Share of Dog Tax.

It may prove of interest to the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, of Rochester, N.Y., who were married at the home of the bride in Muncy on December 28th to learn that they received some time since a unique, if belated wedding gift, from an acquaintance in Florida. It is an alligator, twenty-four inches in length, and of a lively and hungry disposition.

Died: Sarah Fague Michael, died at her home South Market street Monday evening, aged 65 years, 4 months, and 11 days; Catharine B. Reedy, an aged resident of the borough, died early Thursday.

Clyde Frantz, Hughesville’s Mr. Terrific had just amazed the crowd by winning his second straight state wrestling championship and gaining accolades from fans that few wrestlers of recent vintage have been accorded.

Dr. Harold A. O’Brien, has accepted an invitation as commencement speaker of the Muncy high school gradation program on June 2.

Sherri Solder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Soler, has been named winner of the Muncy high school essay contest sponsored by Legion Auxiliary on the subject, “How Can I Preserve American Heritage.

Air Force Commendation Medal Awarded to Robert Bastian, of Muncy, for Heroics in Viet Nam.

Announcement made of the marriage of Mrs. Flossie Brass and Harry Barnhart, both of Muncy.

Named first runner-up in the Mrs. Pennsylvania 1967 contest as Mrs. Fred Eshleman who represented Lycoming County.
