140 years ago

Peter Stetler and Jas. Fahrenbach made an unsuccessful this week in search of a horse and buggy stolen from Mr. Stetler two ear ago.

Died-In this borough, on the 21st inst., Mrs. Julia Gortner, wife of Isaac Gortner, Sr., aged 75 years.

The borough has leased ground on High street, immediately opposite the present location of the engine house, upon which to place the house, and have contracted with A. J. Sanders to remove the building, put up and addition of 20 feet, and erect a tower, in which to drain hose, 35 feet in height.

A deer was caught alive in the streets of Hughesville last week. What a delightfully rural village where wild animals roam the streets in broad daylight.

Married-At the Evangelical Parsonage, Hughesville,June 4, George Cully, of Muncy, to Miss Mary Bartlow, of Hughesville.

The fifth annual commencement of the Muncy High school was held June 12. The graduating class was composed of six young ladies: Sade DeLany, valedictorian; Anna Johnson, salutatorian; Leitha Johnson, Jennie McCarty, May Stolz and Rosa Wolcott.

George Huller came out victorious in the 50-mile race between him and Frank Noff at the Pine street rink, Williamsport, Monday night.

Died-In East Muncy, June 12, James H. McBride, aged 42 years.

Misses Mazie Trumbower, Mame Delany and Martie Schuyler had a picnic at “The Grove” for the children of their schools on Saturday.

100 years ago

The thirty-seventh annual commencement exercises of the Muncy High School will be held in Educational hall Friday evening. The graduating class numbers eighteen, eight boys and ten girls.

Married-Miss Hazel Victoria Beeber to Dr. Ralph M. Tyson on Tuesday evening.

Arthur Raymond Harriman, of Moreland township, and Grace Selinda Spring, of Penn Township were married Wednesday afternoon.

Friday evening a seven-passenger Studebaker ran into the Ford car belonging to Kramer McDaniel, stripping it of a wheel.

Died: Samuel H. Dice, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver C. Brass, of this place, died at his home in Jersey Shore last Friday.

Opera House Program-Tonight, Jesse Lasky presents Geraldine Farrar in a motion picture masterpiece, “Maria Rosa.”
