140 years ago

By the upsetting of his wagon at Stevens’ tannery, Sullivan county, Irvin Schoch received a painful injury to his back.

A.D. Foucart has just received a fine marine chronometer, by which our citizens will be able to have their watches regulated to the closest precision possible.

The Muncy String band paid School Director-elect Wells the compliment of a serenade Wednesday night.

Died-At her home in this borough, on the 14th, Miss Elizabeth Huckell, after an illness of one week; In Muncy Creek township on the 15th, Joshua Taggart, in the 77th year of his age.

The Messrs. Burrows, of Picture Rocks, are building a large hotel at Eaglesmere, which will be three stories high and be crowned with a cupola.

Dr. H.N. Laird now gives gas for the painless extraction of teeth, having brought home from Philadelphia a most improved apparatus for the purpose.

A veritable temperance war is raging in Hughesville, between those for and against license.

Price Two Cents

Died: Catharine Schock, Port Penn, last evening, aged 22 years.

The little mining community of McIntyre, this county, which enjoyed a period of prosperity over a quarter of a century ago, is destined to come into its own. The town is to be rebuilt and mining operations are to be resumed on a scale which will eclipse the activities that took place during the palmy days of the community.

Two more pairs of field glasses were sent from Muncy to the Navy Department this week.

Triplet calves were born at the Rodger Swartz Farm, Muncy. The triplets were born on Feb. 8. Dr. Donald Lundy, Jr., who delivered the calves, said this was the first time in his 30 years of practice.

A group of 9th and 10th graders from East Lycoming School District began 1993 with a four-day field trip to Florida.

It was a double celebration for the Montgomery HIgh School girls basketball team on Feb. 3. Savoring victories were Lisa Wetzel, Lady Raider who achieved a record of 1,000 points in career scoring and head coach Craig Weaver who marked his 200th victory at the same game that gave Lisa her victory.
