Enlightening Items from old Luminaries

150 years ago

1868

On Friday week, we learn that two of the Hellman’s Jacob and Lilly and E. Knapp of Clinton township caught with a single net between the hours of 10 and 4 o’clock, 100 dozen pigeons.

The Ladies of the M.E. Church, will hold a festival in Union Hall on Saturday evening next. Let them be patronized.

Married at the residence of the bride’s mother, on the 9 inst., Edward K. Ayers, to Miss Sadie A. Smith, both of this Borough.

Married in Muncy, on the 12th inst., Jacob H. Snyder and Miss Susannah Artley, both of Lycoming county.

Died-In Muncy Creek twp., on the 11th inst. Mr. Genry Fisher, aged 50 years, 6 months, and 6 days.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLaughlin of Muncy announced the engagement of their daughter, June Alice, to Pfc. Richard A. Seaman, Jr., Williamsport.

Miss Violet Louise O’Connor and James Elwood Moyer, both of Picture Rocks, were united in marriage on Saturday, April 10.

Pvt. Hurley E. Gordner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Gordner, is a graduate of the Muncy High School He has been in the service since June 17 and is now stationed at Stoney Field, S.C.

Pfc. Leonard Boatman enlisted in the Army last October and has received most of his training in Texas. He is now stationed at Foster Field, Tex.

Mrs. Arch Rider and Mrs. Warren Rider of Muncy R.D. 4 were shoppers in Muncy Friday afternoon.

Miss Sarah H. Phillips, aged 80 years, Muncy, died Saturday, at Muncy Valley Hospital.

Rites for George Hitesman, 110 Sherman St., who died Friday morning, were held Sunday afternoon at the Wallis Funeral Home.

Fenton C Confer did Wednesday as a result of a heart attack suffered Tuesday morning. Mr. Confer lived on a farm on the Muncy Clarkstown road.

Howard E. Rishel, 28, died Friday night at his home on Muncy R.D. 3 were held Tuesday afternoon.

William H. Crumplen a T/Sgt. in the P.O. W. Guard Patrol died suddenly of a heart attack in the business section of Muncy Tuesday evening.
