Looking Backward

1868

Married at White Hall, on the 10th inst. Mr. P.M. Confer of Moreland township and Miss Emma Dildine of Lairdsville.

Died on Wednesday the 17 inst., in Muncy Creek twp., Mrs. Charlotte, wife of Mr. Charles McCarty, aged 47 years, 2 weeks, and 4 days.

Mr. Joseph Tuefel, residing near this Borough, fell on the pavement on Main street, on Sunday evening last and broke one of his legs below the knee.

Mr. N.D. Green was confined to bed by sickness on Christmas. We are glad to say he is now able to be out again.

Mr. Charles Mozley and Mr. J.R. Fry are still very sick.

Married at the M.E. Parsonage, Muncy, Nov. 30 Mr. Funston M. Mill of Newberry and Miss Sadie L. Anderson of Muncy Creek township.

Sometime during Sunday night thieves broke into the Methodist parsonage and helped themselves to something to eat. Frank Opp who lives just across the alley, heard the noise and going to the window invited the rascals to leave. They didn’t take kindly to the invitation and one of them informed MR. Opp that if he didn’t take his head in they would shoot it off. During the same night burglars pried open the door of the wholesale liquor store of S.B. Shoemaker and made away with about $20 worth of bottled goods.

Engagement of Margaret Elizabeth Seitzer, Williamsport, to Robert Lee Kramm, of Milton.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Wallis Funeral Home for Mrs. Emma Jane Verga, aged 93, who died on Friday.

Announcement has been made of the marriage of Mae Treon Burns, of this place, to Richard N. Foster on Dec. 3.

Bette Jo Campbell, Muncy High School, has been selected the winner of the annual D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award.

The Muncy School District board of directors named Joseph Wentzler president for his first full term, selected Edward (Eddie) Miller as varsity football coach, and accepted with regret the resignation of high school French teacher Thomas O’Boyle.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 11 for Miss Martha C. Brittain, assistant postmaster in Muncy from 1929 through 1952 who spent a lifetime in Muncy and was one of the community’s most prominent citizens.

Mrs. Theodore R. Hall and daughter, Miss Gwendolyn Hall, were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley G. Feaster and son near Montgomery
