Died-On the 15th day of the 5th month, in Muncy township, Joseph Witacre, Esq., aged about 72 years. Mr. W. was one of our oldest and most worthy citizens, was a member of the society of friends and bore an irreproachable character.

1894

Few of the many born reach their 80th mile post, for our allotted time is generally far short of “Three score ears and ten” but May 8, 1894, “Ma”, or “aunt Jane” Green, as so many of her friends are pleased to call her, celebrated her 80th birthday at her home on North Market Street.

Cards are out announcing the marriage of Mr. Lewis Boyd Walbridge, of Meeker, Colorado, formerly of this place, to Miss Adelilne English Wash, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, on May 17th.

Rumor has it that Hon. G.G. Wood, of this place, will be a candidate for State Senator from the Lycoming-Sullivan-Columbia-Montour district this fall.

1924

Las Thursday Thomas Smith, a farmer residing in Moreland township, on Opp R.D. 1, was working in his barn when he was kicked by one of his horses rendering him unconscious.

William C. Slee of this place and Miss Madalyn Shunkwiler, of Lewistown, were united in marriage May 15, 1924.

War Department Reports Lieut. Robert M. Miller Missing in Action-Montgomery Pilot Reported Missing Since April 23d.

Sgt. Carl W. Worthington of Muncy Killed in Action April 17 on Anzio Beachhead.

Married-The Reverend Joseph V. Adams Ph.D., pastor of the First Methodist Church in Muncy, and Mrs. Laura Hattie Bierly of Renovo were united in marriage May 1.

Died: Emma Gertrude Nunn, 52, Black Hole Valley, died May 11; James Covert, proprietor of the Covert Bakery, died May 8; Clarence V. Schaeffer, 46, of Black Hole Valley, died Monday morning.

Marriage announced of Miss Louise Edwards and Howard E. Haines, of Muncy, August 31, 1943.

Engagement announced of Miss Mary Hess, Hughesville, R.D. to Ray Springman of Muncy.

Huntersville-The farmers are busy planting corn and potatoes in this section.

An old fashioned “Belling” was held at the home of Lervis Ansdadt recently, for Mr. and Mrs. Jean Ansdadt, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ansdadt.

April 24, 1969

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Hilner will make their home in Warren upon their return from a wedding trip following their marriage of April 19. The former Linda L. Maust, of Muncy, and Kenneth Hilner, Muncy, exchanged vows in the Muncy Baptist churchy.

Aboard the reconnaissance plane shot down last week by the Koreans was a brother of Charles Perrottet, student at Lehigh university and native of Tryson, N C.

In a military wedding on April 19, Miss Pamela Gail Martin of Milton, and H. Porter Rathmell, of near Muncy, exchanged vows.

Hughesville high school cheerleaders won the 12th annual competition in the Central Pennsylvania a contest at Muncy last Friday night and thus earned he host position for the 1970 event.

Engagement told of Miss Catharine Davis Jacobs, Muncy, to Charles Perrottet, of Tryson, N.C.

Army Specialist Four Raymond A. Lynch, 22, of near Montgomery, received his second award of the Purple Heart during ceremonies March 26 near Roch Kein , Viet Nam.

Sergeant Mark S. Sheets, of Hughesville, has been assigned to the America Division near Chu Lai, Viet Nam. The 21-year old sergeant graduated from Hughesville high school in 1967.

Died: Elmer J. Bradburn, 58, who has served as traffic manager at Sprout, Waldron and company for the past 15 years, died early Thursday, April 17; Mrs. C. Howard Bower, died April 20; Frank H. Painton, 67, Muncy, April 19.
