Looking backward

May 30, 1869

The weather last week was most unfavorable for haymaking. It is to be hoped that the weather is now settled and that our farmers will have no further trouble in securing their hay and grain crops.

The vote on Lay Delegation in the Methodist Church, in this Borough, on Wednesday last, was quite small, but the few votes that were polled were all in favor of the measure.

A picnic was held in the grove belonging to Mr. Charles Shoemaker in Muncy Creek township, on Tuesday of last week, by the young folks of the Borough and vicinity.

1894

Mrs. G.L.I. Painter passed peacefully away at her home in this Borough on Wednesday evening after an illness of only four days.

Master Frank Halfpenny Painter celebrated in ninth birthday anniversary on Monday. Twenty-five of is little friends assisted in the celebration.

The town council are making arrangements with the Electric Light Company to place a large fire alarm whistle at their plant.

In the great world war, now happily ended on the side of right and justice, Muncy gave her gallant sons with the same ardent devotion to the high ideals of patriotism which has characterized her citizens in past struggles.

One of the social events of the season took place at the residence of Mrs. and Mrs. Fred M. Sprout, at 12 o’clock today, when their older daughter, Mary Augusta, was united in marriage to Mr. John Bruch.

Funeral services were held for Martha E.Fry, 73, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leroy Hill, on Saturday, July 1.

Jonathan H. Rogers, 72, died suddenly at his home on Sherman Street on July 3rd.

Fred Byerly has been promoted to Cpl. He is stationed at Camp Balanding, Fla. William Hill, c/o P.M., N.Y has been promoted to Cpl. James Sedam, Camp Shelby, Miss. has been promoted to S/Sgt. and has been transferred to the Infantry.

Maryadele Narber, Dewart, becomes the bride of John Reynolds, of Muncy R.D. 3, Friday at 4 p.m.

Despondent over the death of his wife, Professor Martin L. Drum, professor of surveying at Bucknell University, eded his own life July 2nd, at his home in Lewisburg.

When they return from a cruise to Bermuda, Lawrence William Grieco, science instructor in Muncy senior high school, and his bride, the former Teresa Mary Smith, will be at home at at W. Penn st., Muncy. They were married at a con-celebrated mass on June 14.

Former Muncy residence Richard Eugene Akers and Miss Maudye Colleen McKlinley exchanged vows on June 6 in Kentucky.

Sen. Zehnder H. Confair, presently serving PA 23rd State Senatorial district, was married on Wednesday,, June 18, to Mrs. Cleo M. Wagner, of Danville.

Engagement announced of Carol A. Wagner, to Lewis H. Rupert of Hughesville.

United in marriage June 14 were Jean Louise Hill of Hughesville, and Larry Robert Fry, of Hughesville.

Engagement announced of Renita Jean Bowman to Jody F. Lomison of Hughesville.

Miss Sharon Everhart of Muncy, and Airman Dale Maynard Milheim, Muncy, were wed on June 14.
