Died in this place Wednesday evening last, an infant son of Mr. William Cooke, aged about 2 months.
Died on the 25th inst. after a lingering illness Mrs. Mary Hill, of Hillsgrove, Plunkets Creek township, in the 83rd year of her age.
1869
Died in Pennsville Muncy township early Wednesday morning July 21st after a long illness, Miss Ellen, daughter of he late Mr. Edwin Adllum, dec’d aged 53 years, 3 moths and 12 days.
The corner stone of the M.E. Church at Picture Rocks, Pa., will be laid on the 8th of August A.D. 1869.
Fine specimens of Norway oats were left at our office on Saturday last. They were grown by Joseph T. Cruse on the farm belonging to Charles Ellis in Wolf Township.

During the storm that passed over this place on Friday night last, lightning struck their residence of Mr. Benjamin Snodgrass, in East Muncy, setting the roof on fire.
Mr. L.B. Root died at the home of his son-in-law, Rev. G. M. Righter, on the eve of the 23rd inst. His remans will arrive at the Muncy Station today (Thursday) where they will be met by relatives and friends and proceed immediately to Muncy Cemetery and there laid by the side of his wife.
Mrs. McCarty, wife of Mr. Hiram T. McCarty, died at the family residence near Clarkstown on Monday morning, shortly after nine o’clock, aged 65 years, 8 months, and 8 days.

Out on Bud Walton’s farm a few days ago the cows ate some of the tail of Sonny Taggart’s horse by mistake. Bud and Sonny looked the damage over and Bud declared that the trimming was an improvement. Sonny can’t make up his mind that it is an improvement, and would like the Luminary to hold a vote to decide this question.
Miss Mary Meckley died on Tuesday evening after an illness of several weeks, aged 75 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
Mrs. Ida Wilson died at her home on Tuesday morning at the age of 66 years, after a long illness

Ralph C. Deeter, 53, formerly of Muncy and Montgomery, died Friday afternoon at the home of Miss Pearl Plotts, in Turbotville, after an illness of three years.
At an informal wedding which took place on Saturday morning at Lehigh University, Miss Mary DeWald of Muncy became the bride of Robert A. Elder of Williamsport.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Derr, on Sunday, a daughter, who has been named Eva.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Houseknecht, of N. Market Street, Wednesday afternoon, a daughter.
Russel Bartlow has purchased the retail ice business formerly operated by Ray Taylor.

War Department Reports Death of S-Sgt. Carl Houseknecht-Previously listed missing, death occurred December 28 in Italy, according to telegram.
F 1/c Charles L. Lupole of the Navy, formerly of Muncy,R.D. greatly surprised his parents by arriving home Sunday for a short furlough.
Robert G. Kiess, a graduate of Muncy high school, has received his wings as a glider pilot and was made Flight Officer at the home of the Wing Commandoes at Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Savillia Jane Rohm, 89, who died at the home of her son, Jack, Market Street, Sunday evening.
Died: Mrs. John Senn, 92, of Williamsport, July 19; David M. Gerry, 62, former resident, died July 26.
An attractive wedding took place July 22 in Arlington when Miss Barbara Lewis Shepherd became the bride of Pfc. John Franklin Bower, Jr., of Muncy.
Y. 2/c Mary Green Byrd, of Muncy Valley, enlisted in the Waves February 14, 1943.
It is understood that Max Mesny has received word from the American Legion that he is the oldest soldier to have served in this war.

The Muncy high school marching band pulled down two first places and one second place in three recent appearances at area events.
Steven N. Bryan, A.O.A. has been assigned to a Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron at theNaval Air Station, Imperial Beach, Calif.
Sp/4 N. Edward Heincelman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Heincelman, of Muncy, as arrived in Viet Nam.
Mike Schneider, first freshman to receive a Varsity tennis letter at Muncy high, was selected as a finalist by the Central Pennsylvania Lawn Tennis Assoc., for a week’s instruction at Stroudsburg State College.
A wedding trip to Niagara Falls followed the marriage of Miss Vickie Diane Shaner, of near Hughesville, to Walter Stuart Reed, also of near Hughesville, on June 21.
Anthony LaRose was selected as Muncy Jaycee of the quarter at Tallmans on July 9.
