Married on the 2d inst. in Shrewsbury township by G.W. Taylor, Esq., Mr. Malen Doan, of Wolf township, to Miss Margaret, daughter of John Crawford of Muncy township, all of this county.

Department this life Charlotte L., daughter of the late Silas McCarty of Muncy township, aged 32 years and 5 months, after a lingering illness of 11 months.


Married-on the 23d ult., at the residence of the bride’s father, by Rev. G. Eichholtz, John S. Houseknecht, of Moreland township, and Miss Mary E.Michael, of Muncy Creek township.

The heavy rain of Saturday night and Sunday caused a flood in Muncy Creek.

Married-In this Borough on the 54th inst., at the house of the bride’s Uncle, Mr. Joshua Webb, Mr. William Mulligan and Miss Anna Confer, all of this Borough.

Died-Near this Borough, on Tuesday morning, October 5th, 1869, John H., oldest son of Dr. William Musser in the 16th year of his age.

Mrs. Leonard Waltman of North Market Street received word from the War Department Tuesday morning that her brother, S/Sgt. Lawrence A. Foust, has been reported missing in action in France since Aug. 25.

Engagement announced of Miss Betty Lockard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lockard of South Main Street, to T/Sgt. Robert M. Gohl, of West Water Street.

Wounded during the invasion of Southern France Pfc. Earl O. Schick, of Muncy, R.D.3, has been awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart and has been brought back from the battle front and is now recovering from his wound at the Dawson General Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Luminary had another visitor from distant shores this week Pfc. Nicholas Miller, who arrived in town Monday night, called Tuesday morning after having been stationed in Sitka, Alaska, for the past twenty-two months.

Petty Officer, Aviation metalsmith third class, Earl Little, of the Navy, Muncy R.D., left yesterday for reassignment after spending several weeks’ leave at his home.

Engagement announced of Miss Frances Dolores Maietta, of Williamsport, to Cpl. Donald B. Wilt, U.S.M.C, of North Main Street.

Miss Frances Edith Metzger, of Muncy, was married at Melrose, Massachusetts on September 16th to George Burton Greene.

S/Sgt. Frank Reuther, stationed in Italy, has sent to his sister-in-law, Mrs. John Reuther, a rosary given him by the Pope and personally blessed by the Pope.

A corn cutting was held recently in Warren Bieber’s six acre field and the following assisted: Arlie Lupole, Jack Webster, Albert Schaffer, Charles Frey, Edward Bieber, John Snyder, Glenn Arthur, Henry Gortner, Jake Schell, William Schell, Robert Bieber, and Gene Bieber; Foster Bieber and Allen Bieber.

The services of Wayne Farrar as police chief of Muncy Creek Township were terminated as a result of action by the township supervisors at the monthly meeting.

Rapidly nearing completion is the new Montgomery shopping plaza. The food market is expected to be in operation sometime in September while First Citizens National Bank will open its brach in October.

Announcement has been made of the engagement of Miss Andrea Urban, of Edison, N.J. to Edward W. Prince of Muncy.

Capt. Daniel L. Madison, who lately has been engaged in carrying supplies and ammunition to the Danang Area, is spending a short leave with his family at the end of which he expects to return to Viet Nam.
