The river was frozen Wednesday and Thursday night from the Muncy dam to above the outlet locks.

W.T. Bishop, son of William Bishop came near drowning by breaking through the ice while skating on the canal on Thursday.

The Bulletin says the office of district attorney in this county yields an income of between $4,500 and $4,000 per year.

Data gathered by the Department of Agriculture shows that the number of dogs killed in the state last year because they were not licensed reached a total of 75,125. There were 362,249 licensed, according to the reports from all counties.

The area experienced its most miserable week of weather in a long time during the past fortnight, but as is usually the case., there was a silver line behind the cloudiness that prevailed.

Muncy’s firemen experienced a busy answering three calls, two last Thursday and one on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Houseknecht and daughter and Clarence Boatman attended the ice follies at Hershey on Saturday.

Miss Jean A. Heyl, bride-elect, was honored recently at a variety shower at Ashurst Manor Inn.

Died: Mary E. Berger, 93, Lairdsville, died Saturday at her home; Lee E. Musser, 54, deed Dec. 7, at the Muncy Valley hospital.

Charles D. Pfeegor was elected president of the Muncy School District.

Kenneth Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Moore, and a senior at Muncy high school, has been named by Cong. Herman T. Schneebeli as one of his candidates for one of two congressional vacancies at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Engagement announced of Cassandra Ann Murray, Muncy, to Richard Wayne Crawford.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were greeted as they arrived in Muncy last Saturday afternoon.

In a surprise turn of events Tuesday morning, The Luminary learned that Muncy District superintendent, Thomas Scholvin, accepted without regret of the school board the resignation of seven of the eight members of the teacher committee for the selection of a new elementary principal.

A Muncy writer and journalism student, Katherine Yurchak, has written a book called “Muncy, Pennsylvania-Where Wigwams Stood.”

A Pow-wow was held at Ward Myers Elementary School. Students in Mrs. Kostic’s second grade class enjoyed various foods from long ago and about four Indian tribes.
