Two babies were born on New Year’s Day at the Muncy Valley Hospital, with the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Wilbur Mill, of Hughesville, taking the honor of being the first 1953 baby at the hospital. She was born at 12:40 p.m. The other January 1 baby is the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hassenplug, of near Montgomery. He was born at 3:33 p.m.

January 18, 1923
George Halderman, who had the lower part of his eye punctured by a nail, was taken to the Williamsport Hospital yesterday. He is reported as getting along nicely.
Rev. E.R. Heywood preached his farewell sermon in the Baptist church last Sunday evening. He will leave tomorrow for Nanty Glo, where his family will move in the near future.
At the regular meeting of the Firemen Monday evening the members of the new Citizens band of Hughesville purchased the equipment of the Firemen’s band, which recently disbanded.
Miss Grace Smith, and Wilbur Ryan, of this place, were united in marriage Tuesday evening in the Baptist parsonage by Rev. Heywood. They left Wednesday morning on their honeymoon.
The following Rebekahs enjoyed a sled ride to the home of Elmer Smith and family on Friday and spent the day: Mrs. Delanson Poust, Mrs. Irvin Palmer, Celia Poust, Mrs. Theodore Schneider and granddaughter Doris News, of Brooklyn, Mrs. J Myers, Mrs. Charles Ashkar and son Alfred, Mrs. Cora Poust, Mrs. Edward Springer, Mrs. Edward Miller, Mrs. Carolyn Strouse, Mr. and Mrs. George Hauke, Harley McClintock and daughter.
