Montoursville is happy. Ground has broken for a new furniture factory there.
The freak thunder storm of 1883 which occurred last Thursday evening was most severe. At Newberry three young men were drowned by being thrown out of their boats into the river. At Catawissa the paper mill was struck by lightning and destroyed causing a loss of $125,000.
Hundreds of wild ducks were flying in the river last Friday, after the rain. Capt. John M. Bouman and John H. Mares shot forty-seven and Levi Hill and R.E.Gray, twenty nine.

Sounding of the fire siren precisely at 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, will herald the second statewide air-raid alert designated by the state council of civil defense.
Further instances of vandalism at the Muncy cemetery was reported over the weekend when Chief of Police Grenoble was notified that seven plants from the grave of John L. Bruch were missing.
Brian B. Barlow, of Muncy Farms, was recently promoted to first lieutenant while serving with the Army in Austria.

Edward E. Frontz has purchased a new Gardner sedan.
Mrs. Grover Stackhouse was a visitor in Williamsport yesterday.
Raymond Laird has returned after spending a few weeks in Philadelphia and New York.
Miss Helen Fox has returned home after spending the winter in the southern states.
Emerson McCarty underwent an operation at the Williamsport hospital last Friday, and is getting along nicely.
Wm. H. Dildine, of Muncy, has taken charge of Snowden Bros. machine shop, and is prepared to do any and all kinds of work.
The “Hit or Miss” gun club held a meeting Wednesday evening, April 25. There was election of directors and other business to attend to pertaining to the summer shooting.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sutliff delightfully entertained the following persons in honor of their daughter, Anna’s seventeenth birthday: Madeline Stiger, Wilma McConnel, Mae Selzer, Nashla Ashkar, Pauline Reed, Innis Bigger, Max Hughes, Bruce Boatman and Ralph Bussler.
Deaths
Mrs. Julia A. Runyan, wife of Frank Runyan, died at her home on Academy street Tuesday morning at the age of seventy-nine years. She had been ill for a long time. Her husband and two sons, Hurley M., and J. Atwood, of Pittsburgh, survive her.
Nelson Snyder, a well-known Wolf township farmer, died at his home Saturday morning at the age of seventy-four years. He had been ill several weeks. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Miller, of Montgomery, and the following sons: Walter, of near Hughesville; Charles, of Hughesville; Bruce and William, of Hughesville, R.D., and Harry, at home.

Dog owners are hereby notified to take care of their dogs, as several complaints have been received by the authorities, of dogs running over the gardens.

About forty young people attended the service at Tivoli Sunday afternoon.
Mary Fague and Marjorie Little spent the week-end with the former’s mother at Huntersville.
Frank Boatman, of Williamsport, spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Boatman.
The Odd Fellows’ lodge of Hughesville, will be the guests of the Baptist church on Sunday evening, April 29.
The class of young men of the Methodist Sunday School will manage a musical revue to be staged by Miss Beatrice Whitmoyer entitled “Better Times,’ at the park pavilion Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12. The cast will be made up of about seventy-five people.
